Product Description
'These stories open with the impersonal simplicity of folk tales and before you know it you have drifted into a world where it seems not only plausible but somehow inevitable that a man should turn into a snake, a boy seduce his father, a desert tribesman mutilate and rape one of his travelling companions' - James Lasdun. All of Bowles' most extraordinary stories are in this new selection: including "Pages from Cold Point"; "The Hyena"; "Unwelcome Words"; "The Frozen Fields" and the devastating "A Delicate Prey".

About the Author
Born in New York in 1920, Paul Bowles is considered one of the most remarkable American authors of the twentieth century. He began his artistic career as a composer and travelled widely in Europe and North Africa, settling in Tangier with his novelist wife Jane in the 1940s. Bowles is often credited with being a literary inspiration to the Beat authors.
