Product Description

Andy Williams is one of the greatest singers of all time. During a remarkable career spaning eight decades, he has sold over 100 million albums, hosted a hugely successful TV show and worked with a roll-call of showbusiness legends that included Bob Hope, Bing Crosby, Judy Garland, Frank Sinatra, Lauren Bacall, Elvis Presley and John Lennon. Now for the first time Andy tells the whole remarkable story. An Iowa farm boy who grew up during the Great Depression, Andy began performing at the age of seven as one quarter of the Williams Brothers. After going solo, he endured his wilderness years, barely scraping a living in 'rust-belt' supper clubs - to re-emerge as one of the greatest television and recording stars of his era. The Andy Williams Show topped TV ratings around the world, and a string of smash hits, including his signature tune Moon River, went on to earn him eighteen gold and three platinum discs. Still singing, still holding audiences in the palm of his hand, Andy Williams looks back on an extraordinary showbusiness life. Revelatory, honest, funny and touching, Moon River is the inspiring autobiography of an icon.

About the Author
Andy Williams was born in rural Iowa in 1927. His solo career began in 1952, since when he has headlined for twenty years at Caesar's Palace, Las Vegas, hosted one of the most successful and long-running TV shows ever, and toured sell-out concert venues around the world. In the 1990s, Andy designed and built his own state-of-the-art venue, The Moon River Theatre in Branson, Missouri, where he still performs. With his wife Debbie, he divides his time between homes in Branson and La Quinta, California.

Customer Reviews

Great read5
Andy Williams seems to have known everyone in American popular culture over the last 60 years and has insights to spare; his life story is never less than fascinating and is even at times shocking to anyone only familiar with the suave host of the Andy Williams Show. The book is written in a compulsively readable style, and if last night at the Albert Hall is anything to go by, he's still got the voice as well!

A star is born!5
This is possibly the most beautifully written memoir you'll ever read. You don't have to be an Andy Williams fan to start with - like me, you just need to be interested enough in an ordinary person's rise to fame to pull up a chair and start turning the pages. Make sure it's a comfortable chair, though, because you'll be glued to it for a while. The story of the crooner's rise from dirt-poor beginnings to international stardom is both touching and funny, and never less than totally captivating. Best of all, he writes with as much assurance and clarity as he ever delivered a song. Every single sentence is pitch-perfect, from first page to last. At the age of 82 Andy Williams might have left it a little later than most to start writing, but a new career could very easily beckon.
