Product Description

The explosive first novel from the author of the bestselling 'The Little Prisoner' is a gripping tale of a woman whose troubled childhood comes back to haunt her. In the chill of a winter's morning, a sweet and likeable 13-year-old girl unexpectedly gives birth in the bathroom of her council flat. The baby, the product of a brutal rape by her stepfather, is whisked away to hospital and is eventually adopted by a rich suburban couple. As far as everyone is concerned, Sadie will never see the baby again. The girl, Sadie Burrows, survives her ordeal and goes on to become a successful businesswoman, famous in the media, even courted by politicians as an example of young enterprise. Then, out of the blue, there is a knock at the door. And Sadie's shameful secret comes back to haunt her. Sadie, the first novel by best selling author of 'The Little Prisoner' Jane Elliott, is an explosive story of abuse, business, love, success, blackmail, murder and cover-up.

Customer Reviews

Bit disappointed to be honest...3
Having read such brilliant reviews i was dying to get my hand on this book.
The beginning was great, i got really stuck into it and couldnt put it down. It was as if i was reading a true story, i guess that'a because the other book by this author is one about her life.
The first part of the book i didnt have a problem about it was the second.
I thought it lacked detail. I had practically guessed what was going to happen, there was no suspence. There was no mention at all to the relationship Sadie now had with men. If she had ever had a boyfriend etc. Or had the abuse and awful childhood put her off men for life?
As a reader i would like to have known a bit more about Sadie from when we left her at 16 to the business women at 30. It would have been nice if the author could have given the readers a bit more detail.
If you're looking for a great read sort of simular style, then try Kevin Lewis or June Hampson.

It keeps you hookd until the end ! i cannot wait for the next book to come out - fans of martina cole will love this book, and should also try kevin lewis! Brilliant!

Page-turning fiction at its best5
I stumbled across this book having been enthralled by the Kevin Lewis novels and the plot for this sounded good. However this book was absolutely superb - great characters, a superbly gripping story and turned out to be the definitive book you can't put down. A superb debut novel and I will be awaiting the follow up with eager anticipation. If you are in 2 minds give it a buy - you won't be dissapointed.
