A gem
A great little book containing large amounts of information that is still interesting, relevant and important.
This book documents the history of radiation as people slowly realised that it may not be safe. The story of the radium dial painters in the USA is heart-breaking - it was the working practice to lick the brushes - inevitably this caused terrible oral cancers but the employers denied responsibility for as long as possible. The tale of 'safe' radiation limits is also illuminating as over the course of the 20th century they were continually revised down.
An important book that should be much more widely read
Excellent background reading
This book explains in great detail the use of radioactivity from it's humble and unexpected beginings. Presenting a balanced and factual view, this book is ideal for those wanting to learn more about radiation and it's potential effects and benefits.
