Product Description

From the bestselling author of Family Baggage and The Alphabet Sisters comes a warm and captivating story of family secrets, traditions and ties.

As a child, Maggie Faraday grew up in a lively, unconventional household with her young mother, four very different aunts and her eccentric grandfather. With her mother often away, her aunts took turns to look after her – until, just weeks before Maggie’s sixth birthday, a shocking event changed everything.

Twenty years on, Maggie is living alone in New York City when a surprise visit from her grandfather brings a revelation and a proposition to reunite the family. As the Faradays gather in Ireland, Maggie begins to realize that the women she thought she knew so intimately all have something to hide . . .

Customer Reviews

sisters and secrets4
I really enjoyed this book.Coming from a close family myself i could really relate to the Faraday family.A heart warming story about family secrets and how some can tare us apart and others bring us closer together that had me hooked from the first page.

Really good read, although slightly implausible in parts4
I really enjoyed this book and would liked to have given it 5 stars but there were parts where I thought "well that's unlikely to happen" - I know there is artistic licence but...

Basic premise is a story of sibiling rivalry, hidden secrets, people being not what they always suggest they are. It's a story of 5 daughters, a granddaughter and parents and span Australia, New York and Ireland. Good family saga.

Despite the slight negative, overall it was a great read, good for a long journey or beach, easy to read and the story flowed well. I have never read Monica McInerney before and I would read her books again.

Ideal Holiday Book3
This book couild have been so much better. I read a lot but had never read this author. The story of sibling rivalry is not new but I found that, as this story progressed, it became almost almost emotionless at times. There is very little padding to the story and that, I think, is what is lacking. I couldn't connect to them, and certainly couldn't visualise them properly. For all sisters to have achieved what they did is probably what spoiled it for me. Still, a good read on the beach or on a plane if you don't want anything you need to think about too much.
