the perfect crystal
Writing the perfect short story is similar to painting a miniature. In remarkably few words a whole world can be created. In Docx's little gem A Good Man he not only creates a new and startling world that is reminiscent of early Coelho but he has also managed to develop a tension between the characters, indeed their whole history, and a set of new moods rarely captured so well in fiction. The fear of failure, loss and the extraordinary smells and scents of a bleak ice bound country.
The whole piece reads like a poem with its repeated rhythms and delicate use of words. It would seem that Docx has weighed each word until he has achieved the perfect balance.
This was an Easter egg, thank you, Anastasia
