Spoilt, wilful, resourceful and proud, Sofia Solanas grows up on a magnificent ranch in the middle of the Argentine pampas, loved by all around her. All, that is, except her Irish mother, Anna, who punishes her daughter for her own sense of alienation and inadequacy while doting on her sons. When a horrified Anna discovers that Sofia has embarked on a passionate love affair that can only bring shame upon the family, she sends Sofia away to Europe, inadvertently exiling her from her family and the man she loves for over twenty years. And then a family tragedy calls Sofia home. Following the story of the Solanas family in Argentina during the tumultous years of political upheaval, and Sofia's life in exile, MEET ME UNDER THE OMBU TREE is a moving, evocative and unforgettable story of love and forgiveness from a brilliant new voice.

Great!
This is my favourite book by Santa Montefiore. The storyline is very good with enough twists, love, loss, laugh and tears to keep you going until the end. The characters are very well defined. It is a typical Santa Montefiore with the rich family / Argentina / England setting, but you won't be disappointed. I highly recommend it to anyone.
Compelling... full of the right ingredients.
Compelling... full of the right ingredients - passion, family saga, secrets, lies, manipulation, forbiddon love, friendship, jealousy, betrayal, countries and different lifestlyes, customs and characters having to adapt to them. I was totally fascinated with Sofia's story as the author did not portray her as a perfect porcelain doll - she has faults like everyone, and they make her the passionate person that she is, and that people can't help but love. She is stubborn, impatient, feisty and spoilt - but also witty, loyal, intelligent and warm. The relationship with her mother, the opposite to her, cold and steely, or so it would seem, is deeply moving, as they find out they perhaps have more in common than they really knew.
It also shows love to be complex, there is not always one right or wrong and one solution ... but it never dies.
Beautifully written
This is the first S.M book I've read and I was blown away with the way it was written and the relationships between the characters. It had me on the edge the whole way through as to how it would end. Could they find a way to be together or not....?
