Product Description

A week in the lives of seven people - all on the same route to school:

Harriet is waiting for her husband to tell her if their marriage is on – or off. Pippa is about to receive some potentially devastating hospital results. Evie has one week to save her career – and find her missing husband. Nick’s wife died two years ago, leaving him with a troublesome teenage daughter. Martine, a French au pair, is about to run off with a married man. Kitty, a school teacher, accepts a bet to find a man in a week.

And Betty watches by the roadside, looking for the driver who killed her son...

Little do any of them know that by the end of the week the school run will have become a collision course, connecting their lives in more ways than one.

A fun read5
I was swept up by this book, and found myself smiling at so many of the things that rang true, from incidents that beset any parent on a school run. But you don't have to be a parent to `get it'. It deals with very recognisable lives, in which drama, passion and sorrow bubble under the surface and often breaks through.

Sophie King takes a neat framework: seven characters, all leading separate lives (or so it seems) whose one common denomitor is that they all have a connection to the school. You are swept along in the pacy narratives and then the stories begin making connections, that become bigger and bigger. It is a novel with a seemingly light touch and often very humorous, but at its core it is a moving story of modern living and consequences.

The author handles the strands very well and with some style, and I will definitely be looking out for her next one. Thoroughly recommended.

wonderful!5
I loved this book! It's so emphatic! It does take a while to cotton on to who everyone is but thankfully the main characters are explained on the back of the book so it's easy to take a glance to get you back on track! Well worth reading!

Couldn't put it down4
Even though my children are too small for school, I could really identify with the characters from Sophie King's book, The School Run. That's what I look for in a book first and foremost: characters. Hers are natural and believable. The book deals with life's complext problems (affairs, divorce, death) but the light style and perfect pace make it easier to swallow.

Why I didn't give 5 stars:
1. Because as an author myself, I'm overly critical of others.
2. Because I couldn't keep track of so many characters.
3. Because it took me hours to remember where we'd met Therese before.
4. Because I still don't know who Maurice and Hugo are.
