Very poetic5
This seems to be one of the author's neglected books which is a shame as it is one of his most poetic. New Mexico is conjured up well. It is a great spy story built around true events. The hero and villian are well drawn characters and their duels throughout the book build to a thunderous climax. There is romance; science; culture and espionage. Another reason to read it is that it is one of the author's excursions away from his Arkady Renko stories and these all are good i.e Rose and Tokyo Station.
Another great novel covering the same subject is 'Los Alamos' by Joseph Kanon.

In complete agreement with Kasablanca5
Also, this resembles the Day of The Jackal in that knowing the outcome of the background event has no impact on the increasing tension of the story. A tremendous read.
