This humorous novel tells what happens when a close friend dies and you can't let go. Martin Peabody responds by cutting out the mind of his friend and mentor, Walter Berry, a great novelist. Autobiopsy is the story he culls from the late Walter's life-time thoughts.

Editorial Reviews
Review
The premise of this story is so ridiculous - man sucks great literary brain from dead man's body, drains the ideas off, writes own novel - that you almost don't want to bother. Actually it's brilliant. Suspend your disbelief for a moment and you are carried away by the brilliantly written, witty, hilarious, clever and tangled story. Rubens won the Booker Prize with The Elected Member but this is so much fun - don't miss it. (Kirkus UK)

Customer Reviews
Not one of ruben`s best..
I do enjoy ruben`s work-and her wit-but i thought this one was a bit of a let down. Not among my favourites, it was rather boring and predictable.
Brilliant, witty, I cried, I laughed, I loved it!
The second of Bernice Ruben's novels I've read. I found the first one by accident, browsing the library shelves. I enjoyed it so much, I went looking for other novels of hers. This one is brilliantly written, contains many parallels in the lives of the characters, and probably in the lives of most of it's readers. Deals with family guilt issues between siblings, parents and children, while maintaining lighthearted forms of amusement. I look forward to reading my next book of hers. She's my kind of novelist!
Very Unusual
What a breath of fresh air. This is the first of Rubens' novels I've read, picked completely by accident and I loved it. I'm not a big fan of contemporary literature, prefering sci-fi and cyber-punk, but this grabbed my attention straight away! I don't concern myself with sub-plots and hidden meanings, I enjoyed this book for its completely original, off-the-wall and funny story. Well worth a read.
