Customer Reviews
A great read but beware.
This a great read of a book with lots of true stories from the very interesting world of Mr. Palahniuk, however beware if you own the book 'NON FICTION' by Chuck Palhniuk, this is the SAME BOOK only with a different title (something i feel should of been stated on this web site - but that is a digression). I already had this under the guise of the books old name so im going to give it as a present to my best friend (rather than mess around with returns) and what a present it is.
Confused?
Warning - This is the American hardback version of Mr Palahnuik's book currently on sale in the UK under the title 'Nonfiction'. And it's just that, a collection of non-fiction stories. If you like his style they're quite interesting. The final section of the book was the best - more of an insight into the author himself. So, to sum up: an enjoyable read, boring in places and not as good as 'Fugitives and Refugees', his other non-fiction work.
Behind the scenes
This is not the standard Palahniuk book. This is a collection of short works that inspired many of his other books. All stories are true, and presented in that same style that Palahniuk is known for. It includes a brief introduction that outlines the purpose, and references how he feels as an author. It includes stories that obviously inspired his novels. For an example, there is a story about wrestling. The wrestler appreciates the pain involved, and the work, and lives for the experience. He will step onto the mat and become a violent beast, capable of breaking his opponent. But as soon as they are done, both contestants are best of friends, knowing exactly what the other has gone through. Fight Club any one?
