Product Description

Here are five original stories of mystery and enchantment, composed after the author spent time travelling alongside the Maasai through the Great Rift Valley. The stories weave in the special spirituality of the Maasai warriors and range from the poignant story of the white elephant who never forgets human kindness to a tale of the Leopard God of Rain and the remarkable spell used to find him. The stories included are: The Warrior and the Moon, Nasira and the White Elephant, The Road of Stars Sendeyo, The Rain God, Footprints in the Wind. Accompanied by Evie Safarewicz's dramatic and lucid watercolours and a glossary and note on the Maasai, this is a thought-provoking and imaginative book that children will love to listen to and read.

Nick now lives in Crouch End with his wife, textile designer, Maggi Waud.

Great 'mythical' Maasai stories with beautiful illustrations5
This is a fantastic book! The author, Nick Would, clearly loves and knows about his central subject, the Maasai tribe who live around the borders of northern Tanzania and Kenya. He has woven a series of six magical/mythical stories around the adventures of the Maasia in East Africa. Having visited this tribe a number of times and been inspired by the uniqueness of their lives, he then constructed these six magical, moving and imaginary stories. Children will enjoy the stories and the beautiful illustrations (by Evie Safarewicz), but I think that people of any age will be moved and inspired by these evocative tribal tales and fables.
