Product Description

Many beginners find it difficult or impossible to make the initial link with a spirit. Donald Tyson wrote Familiar Spirits in response to repeated requests for an effective technique that does not require expertise in formal ritual, astrology, or the Kabbalah. Here he unveils his unique system for generating spirit sigils based on a set of symbols called power glyphs.

Customer Reviews

Excellently researched and well written4
This is a very good book on the subject of Familiar Spirits and I am sure that anyone with any interest in the subject will find it extremely useful. Donald Tyson has very effectively summarised the literature on the subject and written up how to use servitors and familiars for fun and profit. Wheareas I do not 100% agree with all his interpretations he does make very clear where he is expressing an opinion and where is own ideas differ from the other perspectives on entities. I would suggest that this is read in conjuction with John Michael Greer's "Monsters" to read more about other interperations as to what some forms of entity are.

A large propotion of the book is written on how to actually make use of servitors and familiars covering subjects such as the need to give the entity a mission statement and then house it and name it etc. It does get a bit DIY in places where Mr Tyson prehaps goes into a little too much detail on building a house for the entity but this does into really detract from the book.

The end of the book contains details of his own personal system of sigil creating using his own "power glyphs" which is more graphic than character based as we might find with (for example) the sigilisation method of Austin Osman Spare. It would seem that this could be a very effective system because creating entity sigils by using a small glyph rather than a stylised sequence of letters as this would imprint the intention closer to the subconcsions. In effect he is using his own "iconic" (to use windows speak) alphabet of desire. However all magicians should attempt to build their own personal systems.

In summary, Highly recommended
