Amazon.co.uk Review
Why Men Lie and Women Cry reminds us why Allan and Barbara Pease have been so successful in teaching us to understand ourselves. They combine a blockbuster style of entertainment with jillions of facts about human nature, the battle of the sexes and what really makes us tick. Why Men Lie and Women Cry goes further into the territory covered by their first coauthored bestseller Why Men Don't Listen and Women Can't Read Maps. Both books are written in a punchy, funny style with quick pace, quick wit and quick page-turning power.
This is popular psychology with the emphasis on popular. Inside the front cover we're given a photograph of the husband and wife coauthor team, and they beam out to us as all happy, suntanned, beautifully groomed self-help authors ought to. If you are cynical about human nature, believe people don't really change and suspect self-help is a shallow con game, then don't buy this book. But if you believe we can learn to understand one another better, can build better relationships and work towards a happier and more abundant life, then Why Men Lie and Women Cry can provide practical help in a fun-filled, chock-full of facts informative way. --Dwight Longenecker

Not bad but basically a rip off
Although this book is billed as a sequel to "Why men don't listen and women can't read maps" it is really just a revised edition. In itself that is no bad thing. The quirky "it's all down to the cave men" style of the original is not to everyone's taste and there is a smattering of new material but that is all.
The authors' basic premise is this: "Men and women are different, it's all in the genes." They illustrate this idea with a lot of witty examples and draw conclusions as to how men and women should relate to and deal with the opposite sex.
The book is very readable and if you have not read the "Listen-Maps" book, it is well worth reading. If you have read the earlier book then you should only get this if you really must have the latest edition.
Having said that, I have some doubts about the bona fides of authors who update their existing work and try to package it as entirely new.
The Instruction Manual - Part 2
Having read their first book "Why Men Don't Listen and Women Can't Read Maps" I was keen to find out what else they could write on the differences between men and women. The answer - lots! This book is funny and light hearted, yet at the same time it does take on the basic scientific reasons behind why the sexes are so different.
My fiance calls these books 'The Instruction Manuals' and kept asking me what I was reading about as I laughed my way through it. The part about why men don't like shopping was such an insight! As for the section about what happens to men when they retire - I forced my mum to read the whole chapter! This makes this book a must for any woman living with a retired husband who suddenly discovers his wife has been doing the shopping and housework all wrong for the last 40 years!
My only request would be for the authors' next book to delve deeper into the scientific bits, at times its too simplified to the point of being almost condescending.
However, it looks like I will have to buy multiple copies of this one too, since it will be on permanent loan to one of my friends.
Great book - other reviewers dont get it
Its so predictable - feminists on here saying this is sexist - as they repeatedly say in the book *they are generalising*!!! If you read it you will know that.
The fact is men and women ARE VERY DIFFERENT - lets recognise that - as they say one gender isnt -better- we both have advantages and disadvantages in the genes - though buring our head in the sand and pretending we are identical is not a good option if you ask me.
Id rather embrace reality - and this book is backed with hard scientific fact. Can help anyone - specially in terms of relating to the opposite sex.
Buy it today.
