On October 17, eleven years ago, Julie Miller was found brutally strangled in the basement of her house in the township of Livingston, New Jersey. On that day, Will's brother, Ken Klein, became the subject of an international manhunt accused of the crime. He has not been seen since. Will has tried to get on with his life in the intervening years. He has a beautiful new girlfriend, Sheila, and a job working with the homeless. But when his mother reveals on her deathbed that Ken is still alive, and shortly afterwards Sheila disappears, the cracks start to show in his landscape again. But it is only when he finds that Sheila herself is wanted for a savage double-murder that his life actually starts to fall apart...

Twisty and Turny like a Twisty-Turny Thing4
This is the first Harlan Coben book I have read and I was very impressed. The plot is fast moving and twists and turns like a roller-coaster. The characters are engaging and entertaining (if a little unbelievable) and the book even manages some humour with some great one-liners.
Thoroughly recommended!

This takes the genre to a higher level5
Many books hook me and thus get me turning those pages till the early hours in anticipation. Many books have complex and enjoyable twists, turns and surprises. Not so many books are so well crafted and use the language, dialogue, characters and scenes to such a compelling and higher level as Harlan Coben does in this book. I don't want to give anything away about the plot, just to say it is mind-blowing.
I could exhaust my vocabulary of superlatives to use in this review.
This is the most BRILLIANT book I have read this year.

Top-Rate Thriller and more5
Well, obviously I have rated "Gone for good" as worthy of five stars, but if I could I would have given it six!
For one, this is an excellent thriller and delivers effortlessly as a pageturner with plenty of twists and turns where you least expect it; - yes I realise this sounds like a clichee but trust me, here it is absolutely appropriate. Since this is my favourite genre I was actually amazed to be so fascinated and surprised by this novel, which is very well thought out, and not once did the cynic in me smirk a "yeah, right" at Coben's plot.
But there is more. In my opinion, the strong plot and excellent writing gain even more by how likeable many of the characters are, who all seem very real and flawed and so, for lack of a better word, likeable. So much so that I found this book thrilling even on an emotional level, as relationships between father and son, two brothers, husband and wife etc. are beautifully illustrated, again very real and therefore even more touching.
Harlan steers clear of painting any black and white scenarios, where good guys are pure and bad guys plain evil, there is so much more depth to his characters which I find remarkable as it is not often so well carried out.
What can I say? In one sentence: I couldn't recommend this more.
