Product Description

A CHILD CALLED 'IT': Dave Pelzer's story is of a child beaten and starved by his emotionally unstable, alcoholic mother: a mother who played tortuous, unpredictable games that left one of her three sons nearly dead. No longer considered a son, or a boy, but an 'it', Dave had to learn how to play these games in order to survive. His bed was an old army cot in the basement and when he was allowed food it was scraps from the dogs' bowl. Throughout, Dave kept alive the dream of finding a family who would love and care for him. This is an inspirational look at the horrors of child abuse and the steadfast determination of one child to survive despite the odds. THE LOST BOY: The harrowing but ultimately uplifting true story of Dave's journey through the foster-care system in search of a family who will love him. A MAN NAMED DAVE: The gripping conclusion to this inspirational trilogy. With extraordinary generosity of spirit, Dave takes us on a journey into his past. At last he confronts his father and ultimately his mother. Finally, Dave finds the courage to break the chains of the past and learn to love, trust and live for the future.

Customer Reviews

Inspirational5
This trilogy, is moving, heartbreaking and at times unbelievable. The strengh and resilance of David is humbling. This is a book that will stay with me for a long time, a must read, and for me life changing.
David is truely an amazing, extremely articulate person. Read this book and join him in his harrowing journey to find his peace.

Heartbreaking true story5
My Story is a book that you will not be able to put down. You will wake in the night, wanting to just read the next chapter (then the next, then the next!!). It is so tragic you can only wish that it weren't true. Anybody who has children will give them extra hugs while reading this book. It is the true story of a boy mentally and physically abused by his mother from the age of 4 until his rescue, at the age of 12, by his teachers and social services, and this only after his arms were raw where he had had to clean the bathroom with a mixture of bleach and scouring powders - this wasn't bad on his usual scale, he had been made to drink the concoction in the past. You will read the book in tears, hoping that there is going to be a happy ending. This is truly a story of bravery beyond imagination. It is hard to imagine a child going through this torture and coming out the other end. "My Story" has 400+ pages. I received it as a Christmas present on 25.12.2003 and have just finished it, 27.12.2003. It is that riveting. Read this if you feel brave enough, but have the tissues handy!!

At Last5
At last the trilogy is complete in one book, taking you through the series of harrowing events that encircled David Pelzers life...of child abuse beyond that of your imagination....but also of hope, endurance, strength and hope!
Must read book!!!
