Product Description

It is 1962 and Daisy Lane, whose husband Kenny is in jail for robbery, runs and lives over the family's cafe in Gosport with Kenny's older brother Eddie. Daisy looks out for pretty, vulnerable, 16-year-old Suze, who works in the cafe and, along with prostitute Vera, who also shares the house, the women form a strong and lasting bond. The Lane brothers suffered a violent childhood, but Eddie took the brunt of the beatings. He has grown into a handsome, resourceful villain with a streak of viciousness that leads him to commit acts of terrifying violence to get his way - and Daisy prefers not to know the details of Eddie's 'business' dealings. But hard man Eddie has an Achilles heel - Daisy. She resists him, but when her visits to Kenny in jail become more and more difficult, it is Eddie she turns to for support. Then Eddie pulls a racket too far, venturing on the patch of a villain who is even harder and more territorial than he is. And Daisy discovers the hard way to trust nobody - especially not the man you love...

A Debut Not To Miss5
What a fantastic first novel. The book is set in the early sixties and the author catches this era superbly. Although it is gritty and is about lives of those who live in and around the underworld, it has a charm that is often missing in this genre. It has a fast moving plot which is deftly interwoven with true events. In addition to this it has characters that I really cared about - including the cat! I hope this is the first of many novels. I can't wait to hear what life has in store for Daisy Lane.

Bought because of the reviews4
Very rarely, l buy a book, based on peoples reviews, before
having a look at in the book shop, then committing myself.
I did with this, and am l glad l did. It's all set in the
60's, and if you grew up in that era, it will really ring
home. It's a gangster based book, with some really nasty
people in. Though everything fitted in to place, and l
read it in 3 days, which is quick for me! It had me hooked
from page 1, with there being only 7 main characters in
the book, it was an easy read.
If June continues to write books like this, we have another
brilliant author on our hands.
I've just ordered her new book Broken Bodies, on the back
of this book. Cant really say much more can l Daisy?
(lead Character).
As another reviewer said, take it on holiday, and enjoy it.

Cant wait for the new one.

Excellent read5
I loved this book and saved it to read on my holiday, only problem was it was such a gripping storyline i did nothing else for a day and a bit, and then sulked because i couldn't buy or find broken bones abroad..... I loved Daisy and Vera and if this is the start of things to come from June i am going to be a huge fan. If you like Mandasue Hellar and Martina Cole you will love this even more.
