Everywhere you look, for heaven's sake, there are ladies. Never mind for heaven's sake, this is heaven. It is the Garden of Eden, where you are allowed to eat all the apples you want. The air itself is sexy. Never mind meanderings on hill tribes and Buddhist temple architecture, or burble about meditation and mantras, and dire warnings about 'prostitutes' and 'the sex industry'. Because that is why you have come here. You are a man with ample leisure time and money in your pocket, and you are here for the ladies. Because they do it. Welcome to Thailand, where hundreds of thousands of male tourists are lured every year by thoughts of luscious silk-skinned maidens whose smiles promise ecstasy. And despite the exotic sights, gorgeous beaches and mouth-watering food, for many the magic of the east means sex. In the raucous seaside resorts like Patang and Pattaya, armies of sultry young temptresses ensare the hearts and bankrolls of besotted foreigners. Totally frank, Kit McCann charts his own uninhibited rake's progress through the moonscape of lust and its pitfalls. A vast comedy of corruption, deceit, drugs, murder, despair, suicide, and above all, greed. He should know, he saw it all.

Totally frank, Kit McCann charts his own uninhibited rake’s progress through the moonscape of lust and its pitfalls. Alternating between personal experiences and apocryphal tales narrated by red-eyed stumble-wrecks, he reveals the euphoric highs and the dark underbelly of the Land Of Smiles in ways that will delight, amuse, arouse and terrify. Because behind the glitzy sex industry, is the official doublethink which pretends sex isn’t for sale, the solemn absurdities of Thai bureaucracy, and a vast comedy of corruption, deceit, drugs, murder, despair, suicide, and above all, greed. He should know, he saw it all.
Kit McCann is a nomad with several passports, who has spent his life seeking somewhere warm, cheap and friendly. Wafting there by chance and inclination, he has made Thailand his home for the last eight years.

Funny, free-spirited: the definitive companion to sexy Thailand
This is the best book to date on the sex-for-hire scene for foreigners in Thailand. With plentiful examples of canny bargirls and lovesick Westerners, and an amused, tolerant look at aspects of Thai culture that make this unique "Paradise Lust" possible, McCann beats the competition in that he can actually write: very wittily too, with plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.
One cavil: he uses as nouns 'teen' and 'teenage' for many of the girls he meets, which may provide ammunition for the puritanical/prurient brigade who think Thai sex-workers are all under-age and sex-tourists are all decrepit paedophiles. As anyone who's been to these agreeable fleshpots knows, nearly all the 'girls' are between 20 and 45, with the average falling roughly in the middle. The exceptions at either extreme tend to prove the rule. And for the record, the punters, too, are all ages; within hours you will spot sitting at a bar, being inordinately fussed over, a blond-haired, smooth-cheeked under-age one of those!
Top Banana
It ain't easy to standout among the plethora of paperbacks about Thailand but Herr McCann has managed to do so magnificently.
Reading the first few chapters a tear welled in my eye for the Thailand I miss so much, but as the reader (that's you if you know what's good for you sunshine) moves along with his misshaps in Patong I laughed, saw faces I know and heard stories I was familiar with.
Buy it and enjoy it for what it is, like Thailand it's honest entertaining an unapologetic.
I've read it once, I'll read it again and if I loose this copy I'll buy another.
I salute you Herr McCann long may you prosper.
Cheers
