One False Move
Alex Kava is best known for her Maggie O'Dell series which has been a bestseller across the globe, here she invites us into the lives of some new characters but somethings missing...
Jarred has just been released from prison after getting off the hook of the murder of a shool girl 7 years ago. Low on cash he's eager for money, and fast. His idea; rob a smalltown bank and get away with an easy few thousand dollars. He instantly goes to his sister, Melanie, an asks her and her teenage son, Charlie to join him. Low on cash herself she agrees. Unfortunately the robbery goes wrong and the threesome are thrust into a deadly man hunt across America.
Leading that chase; Tommy Pakula. Omaha Police Officer, working closely with lawyer; Grace Wenninghoff whos got some serious problems at home after being stalked by Jarred after his release. Through in a kidnapping and a pretty high body count and you'd thing you'd be in for a pretty relentless thriller.
However this isn't the case. Yes, the premise is good, but thats all it is, one small idea thats spread out to 250 pages. The pace is good and does keep you interested, and also the characters are pretty interesting but unfortunately rushed and not very well written which leaves a few unanswered questions which are pretty quickly and shoddily tied up in the last chapter.
All in all a pretty good idea which is let down mainly because of the ending but also because it all seems a bit too rushed. Worth the read if you like Kava's previous work but her second standalone Whitewash (MIRA) is a much better read.
Not the best
This book is not as good as A Necessary Evil, Split Second or A Perfect Evil. It is however better than A stroke of Madness. Having read the first 3 books, I became a fan. However, I think that Alex Kava might be running out of ideas. I found it difficult to have any empathy with any of the characters in the book. I also found the story a bit too protracted, long after I had lost interest in the 2D characters in the book.
gripping
Loved this book from the start,a great story and had been completely hooked !!
