Product Description

Expats, espionage and exotic destinations. "Empty Quarter" is gripping - you won't be able to put it down.Darcie's stuck aboard a cruise ship for problem rich kids. It sounds exotic but it's more like boot camp. And, annoyingly the US President's daughter with her reputation for being out-of-control is there too.Things are about to get interesting though...Darcie becomes embroiled in a kidnapping plot that will take her from Naples, via Cyprus, to Egypt and on a terrifying journey through the desert empty quarter. It is an adventure-thriller starring Darcie Lock.

About the Author
Julia Golding read English at Cambridge then joined the Foreign Office and served in Poland. Her work as a diplomat took her from the high point of town twinning in the Tatra Mountains to the low of inspecting the bottom of a Silesian coal mine. On leaving Poland, she exchanged diplomacy for academia and took a doctorate in the literature of the English Romantic Period at Oxford. She then joined Oxfam as a lobbyist on conflict issues, campaigning at the UN and with governments to lessen the impact of conflict on civilians living in war zones. Married with three children, Julia now lives in Oxford. Her first book, The Diamond of Drury Lane, won the 2006 Waterstone's Children's Book Prize and Nestle Children's Book's Prize 9-11 age category.

Empty Quarter - Lucy Watkins - This book is amazing!5
This book is about a girl called Darcie Lock who finds herself sent off on a cruise joining other children who have parents that either want to get rid of them or get them `finished off.' They are then split up into groups and every day they have the chance to be a Pharaoh and give people orders, a slave who has to receive orders and the cooks who have to receive orders from the slaves who have been ordered from the Pharaohs. She is having the time of her life with her new friends on this cruise, until she has been told that she was being disruptive and sabotaging the `Fresh Start' plan. This book is amazing. It gets you extremely hooked and gets you reading for hours at a time. I would definitely recommend it to friends!

empty quarter is a great book! i would seriously recomend it. i couldnt put it down and ended up reading it all in 1 night! (i was up untill 4am!) darcie is on a cruise ship with an organisation to help problem kids, but she finds herself and two other people being held hostage in the egyptian dessert! its really thrilling and easy to read

Loved It!5
This book met all the expectations i had for it and was just as good as the first one. In this book Darcie is sent on a cruise not knowing that it is more of a reform course for unruly kids and the reason she was sent was to spy on the President's daughter. Again she had no idea of this. The plot climaxes when there are some unwelcome intruders to their course leaving Darcie and two other kids in mortal danger. With some old faces and new faces this book is definitely worth reading.
