Synopsis
Nausicaa, a young princess of a future world, tries to bring peace between kingdoms who are battling to claim the last of the world's natural resources.
From the Author
Tre translator comments
I've worked on over 20,000 pages of manga, and Nausicaa is one of the two best I've ever translated (the other is Katsuhiro Otomo's "Domu," available from Dark Horse Comics). Dana Lewis and I really put our hearts into this translation, and I hope it shows (Volumes 3 and up were superbly translated by Matt Thorn).

Amazing
The collection of 7 books that make up the Nausicaa collection are fantastic. I read them all in about two days, once you start them you cannot stop. The paper quality is a bit low, but what can you expect for the price. You read them in the Japanese right to left style which takes some getting used to, but lends authenticity to the books. It has additional stuff to the film and more depth. A brilliant intro to Miyazaki's anime.
A Graphic Novel Masterpiece
I was drawn to this book as a fan of the U.S.-released anime Warriors of the Wind. While I am used to video adaptations not living up to the quality of the printed form, I was unprepared for the brilliance of this graphic novel. The characters are truly involving, the political and ecological backgrounds complex, and the action sequences are exceptional. Following the complexities of the plot is not for read-on-autopilot types; this novel requires some thought. The artwork is accessable, not artsy-obscure, although some of the panels are so busy as to be almost cluttered. There are many levels to this work, and I learn more about it on each re-reading. I became so attached to this story that I can't wait to get the other volumes in this collection. This is a thoughtful, intelligent, and soulful work, far above the slash-and-trash mentality of so many other graphic novels. This is truly a work with heart, an evident labor of love.
One of the most important books I have ever read.
Nausicaa is one of the most artistic, pure-hearted fantasies I have ever read (and that includes Tolkein). The art perfectly blends with the story to create an alternate universe unlike anything else in "graphic" novels or the book world in general. Reading Nausicaa is not like reading a comic book - the pictures are put together with the dialogue in such a perfect way that it is hard to remember that it's not actually a book. If you loved "The Chronicle Of Narnia" or Tolkein's masterpieces, you will never forget Nausicaa. Hayao Miyazaki is, in my very poor opinion, the only living master story-teller. His books and animations are some of the most enjoyable and encouraging things I have ever seen. Also recommended: My Neighbor Totoro by Miyazaki (movie).
