Product Description

In the waning moments of 30 Days of Night: Dark Days, Stella managed to bring her vampire/husband Eben back from beyond... only he came back hungry. Now, for the first time, see what happened next in this collection that fills in the black gaps between that tale and Return to Barrow. Co-creator Steve Niles and Kelly Sue DeConnick co-write this twisted tale of love, depravity, and hunger, moodily brought to life by artist Justin Randall.

Disappointing and dreary2
So far I have been impressed with most of the installments of 30 Days of night but this book is the only exception. It is disappointing and dreary from start to finish. The only positive aspect of the book is the artwork which is why I am giving it two stars instead of one.
The story picks up where Dark Days left off so I would strongly recommennd reading Dark Days first as it will make this disappointing tale all the more easy to follow. Most of the story is told from the point of view of Stella Olemaun. After being bitten by her recently resurrected husband she flees from him and spends most of the story coming to terms with her newly aquired vampirism and her feelings towards her husband Eben unaware that she is being hunted by a group of vampires in the city.
Unfortunately it lacks the horror and intensity of some of the previous 30 days of night installments and portrays the vampires as moronic goons instead of the lethal predators they are normally depicted as. I would only recommend buying this if you are a completist and feel the need to buy up every 30 days of night story otherwise give it a miss.

Very disappointing2
I've been a fan of the 30 Days of Night graphic novels since seeing the excellent movie adaption in 2007 and so I have been following the storyline in the main series. `Eben & Stella' is the 5th book in the main storyline (7th in the collection of books) and follows on straight after Dark Days when Eben is raised from the dead and turns his wife Stella into a vampire.

I really loved the first four in the series but this one was pretty poor to be honest. The story is a real jumbled mess where for a majority of it it is difficult to tell what is actually going on. The characters were all very unlikeable, even Eben and Stella who I really liked in the previous books. The storyline was pretty thin but the writer still managed to make it quite confusing, jumping from place-to-place and time-to-time without telling us. The easiest way to describe how baly edited this book is would be if this was a written novel, it would all be in one paragraph.

Overall this is a very poor graphic novel that I guarantee if you are a fan of the series you will more than likely be disappointed with it. I'm only giving this 2 stars on the basis that the illustrations are fantastic and very lifelike. Other than that it would have struggled to earn 1 star.
