Synopsis
Very much in the style of Templar's groundbreaking "Dragonology", "Piratology" is the 1720 work of Captain William Lubber, Pirate Hunter General to the Admiralty, and contains a similar variety of recreations and novelties, such as a real compass set into the cover, a hidden treasure map, a working sun-dial, a page of foiled, embossed doubloons and pieces of eight and much more. Lubber is also hot on the trail of wicked pirate Arabella Drummond, her cut-throat crew of sea dogs and her ship's cat, the redoubtable Mr. Teach. "Pirateology" follows the enormously successful "Dragonology", "Egyptology" and Wizardology", which have each sold over one million copies worldwide.

A favourite for the whole family
I only just received this gift today as a present from my teenage brother, and it was a smash hit with not only myself but my parents as well who were busy peering over my shoulder as I avidly read through. With the various removable correspondences, pamphlets, a coded treasure map, and other flip-open discoveries on every page, this book is sure to be a success with all ages. I'd especially recommend it to any fan of the recent Pirates of the Caribbean movies because of the wealth of solid and diverse historical information the book provides, while still keeping the lightheartedness of a fictitious pirate-hunter's journal. I learned much and I'm even a 21 year old history major who's done a little pirate research!
Tomorrow I'm going to be sharing the book with another pirate-fan, the 5 year old girl I babysit, and I know she will love it. But one word of caution though along those lines from someone with much small-child experience; if you want your Pirateology book to stay nice, always supervise younger children around it or the unfolding/removable items WILL get ripped and/or lost!
I would recommend this book to any parent, grandparent, educator or student; Pirateology is a rare work of art with a lot more treasure inside than mere gold and jewels!

Pirateology
This book is beautifully illustrated with good factual detail. Lots to keep a person interested, especially those with a short attention span.
