Editorial Reviews
Amanda Craig
"...an absolutely enchanting debut - a salty splash of something fresh within the tradition of mermaid tales"
Cheshire Life, January 2004
A magical fantasy - exciting, touching, funny and highly original.
Amanda Craig, THE INDEPENDENT
'Emily is a spirited girl, more than equal to the delightful cast of eccentrics given voice here by Tessa Gallagher, and the descriptions of how she finds justice, friendship, and a father kept prisoner by King Neptune, are intertwined with mesmerising descriptions of underwater scenery. As rich and strange as anything in THE LITTLE MERMAID, it is perfect for keeping boys and girls of eight and over in suspended animation all the way to the coast.'

Liz Kessler - the Jacqueline Wilson of fantasy?
Girls who enjoy Jacqueline Wilson will really fall for this book. It's an absolutely charming fantasy about a modern girl who discovers the truth about the father she's never met - he's a merman! But how to rescue him from King Neptune's frightening high-security prison, and get her parents back together again? An exciting, pacy read with lots of luscious underwater detail - my two daughters couldn't put this book down.
Magical mermaid story
A fantastic book in the best sense - a fresh, modern take on mermaids with humour, exciting action and delightful descriptions. Just the right length, not over-written, and thank god no dark lords. Those seeking Harry Potter look-alikes may well be disappointed...
You can almost taste the salt!
Reading this book is like taking a walk on a breezy beach - you can almost taste the salt! The story plunges you into an underwater adventure that's exciting and pacey, with a full cast of great characters including the sinister Mr Beeston, the mermaid Shona Silkfin and Mystic Millie who does Palms on the Pier (she's my favourite!)
Emily herself is a feisty heroine, and her story will be particularly satisfying to anyone who has ever felt afraid of being different - which, come to think of it, is probably just about all of us.
I can't wait to see what Emily gets up to in Book 2...
