Eve, the 34 year old daughter of recently deceased conman Alexander Weston, knows a good deal when she sees it - and this one doesn't even come close. However, with vulnerable brother Terry being beaten in jail, she can't afford to be fussy. She needs to organise protection for him, and fast. The intimidating and powerful con Cavelli seems the perfect solution, but how high a price is he going to exact? She may as well be forming a pact with the Devil. A break-in, followed by a vicious assault, soon makes Eve question the wisdom of her choice. Cavelli is leading her straight into Hell. Suddenly, her own life is in jeopardy; there's a psychopath lurking in the shadows and he's prepared to kill to get what he wants. With two men dead already Eve is forced to turn to the past to find the answers she so desperately needs. There's only one problem. Time is running out. Praise for Roberta Kray: "* 'Well into Martina Cole territory, Roberta Kray's first novel gets under the skin of the London underworld with no problem' Mark Timlin, Independent * 'Action, intrigue and a character-driven plot are delivered in well-written style, sure to please any crime fiction fans' Woman * 'You might expect a crime novel written by the widow of Reg Kray would be tough... and it is. Recommend this to fans of Ian Rankin' Booklist * 'The Debt convinces on every page - not only about the gangster world but also as a portrait of a woman whose life has been changed by forces beyond her control.' Review
Desperate woman appeals to powerful convict for help; only trouble ensues. When Eve Weston visits her brother Terry, in prison for armed robbery, she's disturbed to find him bruised, lethargic and wasting away like a "Dickensian waif." Another inmate, minor crime lord Martin Cavelli, unsettles her with his air of authority and unblinking stare. After mulling it over, Eve hires Cavelli to look after Terry without her brother's knowledge. Eve's recent past has been far from stable already. Ever since her father, a petty criminal of long standing, died a suspicious suicide, DS Eddie Shepherd has continued to track her movements. She lost her job as a secretary to high-profile solicitor Henry Baxter when his surly son Richard falsely accused her of having an affair with the boss. Eve has relocated to downscale Norwich, where she shares a flat with kleptomaniac Sonia. With so many potential menaces swirling around her, Eve has a hard time determining who's broken into her apartment and why. Then shadowy Ivor Patterson, a stalker who's connected to dangerous local celebrity Joe Silk, turns up dead, and the web gets even more tangled.Celebrity author Kray - widow of British crime kingpin Reg, whose biography she penned - skillfully weaves a large cast and many plot lines into a big, brisk, busy tale of crime. --Kirkus Reviews

Getting better
I've now read both of Roberta Kray's books 'The Debt' and now 'The Pact'
I must give the author credit, this book is much better than her 1st.
The story line is great, something is always happening to make the plot thicken.
I did enjoy this book but i wasnt hooked. It took me a whole week to finish it. Im glade i did cos i liked it, the ending was great, writing was good etc.
Im not going to give up on this author, cos im sure her next book will be even better!
A good read!!
Loved this book, just could not put it down. This is one for fans of Martina Cole who don't want to read her recent drival. This is the kind of author who has really made an effort to draw the reader in. I can't wait to read another of Roberta's books!
Action and Intrigue
Roberta Kray was born in the seaside resort of Southport in 1959. She worked in publishing and media research in London for 15 years. In 1996 she met Reggie Kray and they married the following year. She currently lives in Norfolk and she has a previous best selling novel `The debt.'
Eve is the daughter of a conman, the recently deceased Alexander Weston. 34-year-old Eve has been around her father long enough to know a good deal when she sees one and the one she is thinking of is not even close. With her brother being worked over in jail she has little option. She has got to organise some protection for him, otherwise he is going to end up on a slab.
The powerful con Cavelli seems to be the answer to her prayers, but can he be trusted and more importantly what price is he going to exact? She knows that she may be biting off more than she can chew with this one.
A forced entry followed by a vicious assault soon makes Eve question her choice. Cavelli is leading her straight down the path to oblivion. Is she holding hands with the devil himself . . .
