Product Description

This is a brilliantly funny and wildly quirky new series from the creator of "Astrosaurs". Professor McMoo is a very clever cow - so clever, in fact, that he has managed to build himself a time machine from discarded farming machinery. He's about to take himself and his two cow friends, Pat and Bo Vine, away from the Barmer farm and the hideous farmer's wife, when a very strange, futuristic, robotic cow - a ter-moo-nator - appears and attacks them...the team see him off but then are confronted by more strange cows - this time dressed all in black. These cows have travelled back in time to save the Prof as he, Pat and Bo are destined to become star agents of the CIA - Cows in Action, a crack team of cow commandos! In the future, cows live peacefully with humans as equals, not as food. But some cows in the future try to use the technology of time travel to interfere with history - and the Prof has to help stop that! In this first adventure, the CIA must travel back to the time of Henry VIII, where Henry's wife, Anne of Cleves, has been replaced by a cow in disguise! It's all part of a terrible ter-moo-nator plot to change history. Can Mcmoo and his team reveal the truth and avoid having their heads chopped off?

About the Author
Born in 1971, Steve Cole spent a happy childhood in rural Bedfordshire being loud and aspiring to amuse. He liked books, and so went to the University of East Anglia to read more of them. Later on he started writing them too, with titles ranging from pre-school poetry to Young Adult thrillers (with more TV and film tie-ins than he cares to admit to along the way). In other careers he has been the editor of Noddy magazine, the voice of a Dalek and an editor of fiction and nonfiction book titles for various publishers. He is the author of the fantastically successful Astrosaurs series for young readers.

Another fun preteen boys book from Steve Cole4
If you and your child are an Astrosaur fan you will have no problem enjoying this book. Read the Amazon review above - it describes the book very well. Cows from our time have just been bred for high intelligence, and bright bull Prof. McMoo uses discarded rubbish from the human scientist next door to convert the cow shed into a time machine. Using his technology, in the 26th century mad cows from the F.B.I (Fed-up Bulls Institute) build the fearsome ter-moo-nators, part cyborg part bovine killing machines, and send them back into time to try to destroy human history. Only the Cows-In-Action (CIA) can save the future by preserving the past. Lots of good Sci-Fi and clever childish Moo related jokes abound to amuse any kid under 12, although boys might go for this book a bit more readily than girls. This must be the first book in the C.I.A. series, so I would read it first.

Perhaps the book isn't quite as polished as the excellent Astrosaurs series of books and I find I stumble on the cow names McMoo and Bo when reading it out loud to my son (11) - a poor reader, but there's no denying it was a fun easy read with a lot of good line drawings to set the mood as well. There's also 4 collector cards inside to cut out. The books got 147 pages of large text and most 8+ children will be able to read it themselves with a little adult help. The book is mildly tense, quite funny, and not scary. We now have the next two Cows-in-action books on order. So recommended (I should have given the book 5 stars really). Do also try the Astrosaurs & Captain Underpants series of books as well, they are very preteen boy friendly.

Cows in bandages5
I like this book because it's exciting, and full of funny moo jokes. I enjoyed my Dad reading it and reading it to myself. I learnt about Egypt and pyramids. Andy (age7)

Mooving Story5
If you like Astrosaurs then you'll love this. We have run through all the Astrosaur stories for bedtime reading and have now mooved on to Cows In Action.
