Product Description

Fiction that mirrors the experiences of women 45+ "I'm going on a cruise. I've chosen my cabin, the ultimate in luxury, with a king-size bed and a Jacuzzi. It's utterly immoral...but I don't care. Daddy taught me to be very careful with money but he didn't teach me how to live. I'm going to make up for lost time. There's nothing like a coronary to frighten the life into you." Ruth is a talented but overly-modest artist whose secret passion is the stage. The death of her father forces Ruth into a humdrum existence caring for her elderly mother, but a heart attack in her forties causes her re-examine her choices. Change is inevitable as she meets two men - one a scenic designer who opens up the possibility of a career in the theatre, the other a young artistic director who falls in love with her. Tale with a moral4
The moral of this story is 'Don't let life pass you by'. Ruth-Ruthy to her mother with whom she is still living at 44 is a most annoying lady! Even if her ironic sarcasm made me laugh, I also found myself so cross with her behaviour at times. The'Turning Point'and opportunity to change was when she suffered a heart attack, at a frighteningly young age. At first this seems to jolt her into taking some action. Throughout the novel though she struggles with the concept of 'getting a life', with fun and tears along the way.

Ruth's change of life5
I loved this book. I took it along to a doctor's appointment (2 hours breathing into a machine every 15 mins), read half of it and then could hardly wait to get home to finish it that night. I loved Ruth's voice, her ironic, sometimes sarcastic comments were wonderful. She was a real character, overweight, chain smoking, boring job, in a rut and still living with her mother. Her journey after the life-changing jolt of a heart attack was very believable. The details of her new wardrobe and younger lover were fun, but the reality of her new life and the journey she takes to achieve it was much more serious and moving.

Take a chance!5
This book shows a young lady, Ruth, stuck in a routine and just living "day to day" because it's the right thing to do. Her heart attack triggers Ruth to make some changes and do something for herself. Reading her story should inspire one to not wait until something life threatening happens, but, to make a change and pursue something they "wish" to do and be happy. Take a chance!
