Bob Heggie is just how you would imagine a middle class bank manager would be, looking in from the outside that is. Deep down he is in turmoil. His wife has left him for another man and his visits with the children are far too infrequent. He is trapped in a career with no challenge and no promotion prospects. A series of small misdemeanours has left him on the verge of dismissal. He is suffocating and can't see a way out. At times, he thinks he is moving towards that thin line where sanity ends and his worst nightmare begins. Then a dramatic event changes Bob's life. He stumbles upon a violent bank raid. He witnesses a young woman lying motionless, a pool of blood oozing from her head. Her face is twisted and contorted and lacks any sign of life. One or two high-ranking officials at the funeral and of course a representation from the branch. A small death in service benefit. maybe? If she has served her probationary period that is, if not a nice little saving for the bank, perhaps a fraction of a penny on the share price? He makes a decision to leave the bank forever. He formulates the perfect heist, the perfect way to rob his employers, sting them, embarrass them, shame them, and hurt them where it hurts them the most. He plans everything down to the last minute detail and realises that it just could work. But has he got the bottle to carry it off? Has he got the nerve? And after everything. supposing.just supposing he could pull it off.could he carry on as normal for months or even years afterwards? Would they see through him. would they realise that the culprit was in their very midst. Mr reliable, Mr dependable, Mr tedious. Boring Bob.

From the Publisher
This is British writer Ken Scott’s debut novel with Bootleg Press and we are happy to have him aboard. JACK OF HEARTS is a thriller we are proud of. A year in the writing, longer in the second draft, but the story was worth the wait, worth the effort.
Newcastle Banker Bob Heggie lives alone in a barely furnished flat. His wife has thrown him over for another man and taken the children he loves. His boss treats him like a dog, often humiliating him in front of the other employees.
Then he buys a motorcycle, meets a younger woman and is almost killed during a daring, daylight bank robbery. The motorcycle, a Harley Sportster, gives him confidence, the girl confuses him and the robbery changes him.
While walking the moors in the early morning, listening to Bob Dylan sing about the Jack of Hearts on his iPod, he devises a scheme, a grand plan, to get even with the bank and the boss he loathes.
Give this story a try, we think you’ll like it. Well, we hope you do. Mr. Scott is busy working on the sequel and we hope, if you try this one, that you’ll come back for that.
Best regards,
Bootleg Press

The first outing for Bob Heggie
I came to this book backwards and read the sequel, 'A million would be nice.' first. As a result I had to read the debut. I was not disappointed. Thank you amazon for the flag, sorry I read them the wrong way round but it gave me the excuse to re-read the second book something I strongly urge everyone to do. Thanks Mr. Scott, thank you for Bob Heggie, long may he flourish and did someone really get away with the robbery, I would love to know. You tell me fellow readers.
A must-read thriller full of suspense and action.
We can all empathise with Bog Heggie. He's just the average nice guy on the street and he deserves a break. But often the breaks don't happen unless we help them along a bit. Bob Heggie turns his life around...by robbing a bank. Okay so perhaps it's a bit unusual for the average nice guy, and maybe not a strategy that should be recommended. But the character of Bob Heggie is so well drawn that you empathise completely. You are with him the whole way and you really want him to win.
This thriller has you on the edge of your seat, suspense and action all the way, a terrific read.
Set a day aside for reading this book!
Once I got stuck into "Jack of Hearts" I was intrigued by the two main characters and the plot and could not put the book down until I had finished it - in one day! A really well written novel with a highly believable plot which set the heart racing at times !! I would highly recommned this book and am already looking forward to the next book by Ken Scott!
