Product Description

It looks like Ellie has lost the love of her life when she bumps into him - shopping for baby clothes with the wife he's supposed to be leaving for her. Finding herself back home and loveless isn't all bad though. Her temp job's bearable, it's nice spending time with her granddad and there's even a distraction in the shape of hunky landscape gardener Gabriel. But just when it looks like everything is shaping up there's a knock on the door that turns her grandad's world upside down and takes them unexpectedly back to the Welsh Valleys in wartime...

Review of Bethan Darwin's Back Home4
Having complex love affairs and relationships is almost a rite of passage for the professional woman in contemporary novels. Back Home tells this tale, but also weaves a quietly complex tale of a different age. The novel takes us back to a time without Facebook, mobile phones, the internet and multimedia, where personal secrets could lie buried in unopened letters underneath the bed. There is a wonderful juxtapositioning of the two tales that unfold - the seemingly brash and ostentatious world of corporate legal London complete with champagne drinking, cuff-linked, married men and the tale of the austere war time and post war years in the Rhondda Valley in South Wales. Bethan Darwin's story telling, and use of language, is carefully constructed and the tale is beautifully told. A good read and one that I would recommend.

A breath of fresh air from the Valleys!5
This new author is a real find. Bethan Darwin's first book is sassy, sad, funny and raunchy - all you need in a feel good book about love and loss and finding yourself (and family you didn't know you had). Couldn't put the book down and am waiting for the next instalment about Ellie and her friends. Next book very soon please?

heartwarming and moving - just a lovely read.4
Two stories cleverly intertwined with characters that are immediate and real, this book is easy to get lost in with its gentle pace and movingly honest characters. A really enjoyable book about the family ties that bind us, about lovely, lasting, loving love, painful love and thwarted love that should have been. Get it now for your holiday read.
