The story of Pinjar is set in the backdrop of riots during the partition of India & Pakistan. It s a gripping tale of human spirit to overcome hate with compassion and love. Indian cinema at its best5
Against the background of the traumatic partition of Pakistan and India, this movie tells the story of a woman (Puro/Hamida)whose life is swept away by events that she does not control or understand, but who refuses to surrender entirely to them. Puro (a hindu girl) is kidnapped by Rashid (a muslim man)the day before her marriage as an act of vengeance in a feud between their two families. As a hindu of her cast, Puro's life is finished because she has been tainted by the kidnapping and her family reject her. She must now accept the marriage offer of Rashid, her captor, who is in love with her. However, Puro makes it clear that this marriage is an act of desperation and that she absolutely hates her captor/husband. This way begins her new life as Hamida. And from this point Rashid begins his efforts to win his wife's heart and to find redemption for the sin which he feels he has committed against her. The opportunity to prove his worth comes with the brutal events of the partition, when some hindu victims of the ethnical violence are in need of the help that he generously provides because he feels moved by their tragedy. In this troubled time, however, Hamida is not passive, but also helps as she can, sometimes to the point of risking her life; all this with the total support of her husband, Rashid. And when the oportunity to reach a final decission about her own life finally comes, she finds she has changed ... This movie is a beautiful love story, as well as a denounce of the lack of control over their own lives that most Indian women have. The music is not-so-Bollywood, but very beautiful, and the acting is superb. Don't miss it!!

Excellent movie, a must watch5
This is an excellent movie set in the Punjab during the Partition of India & Pakistan (1947). Very unlike a Bollywood 'formula' movie, Pinjar tells the true story of a Hindu girl - Paro - who is re-christened Hamida, after she is kidnapped by a muslim farmer Rashid. The acting is superb, especially the lead actors Urmilla Matondkar ( Paro / Hamida) and Manoj Bajpai ( Rashid). The movie leaves you thinking about the trauma that people go through in such life changing events, and you begin to understand the scars that are left on the survivors these events.

Must Watch5
A must see movie, not the usual Bollywood film, and keeps you enthralled from beginning to end.
