Synopsis
India's greatest epic story, MAHABHARAT, was written some 5000 years ago by mystic Vyasadeva, of the Himalayas and concerns five brothers and their battle to sustain their rightful place as rulers of a huge kingdom. The wonderful adventures of the brothers involves war with their Kingdom-hungry cousins; exile; spiritual illumination; an incarnation of Krishna; and the complete Bhagavad-Gita. The complete story was produced for Indian television by Ravi and B R Chopra, adapted to an epic, action-packed and magical 94 episode series, and released in both full and abridged form.

The greatest epic ever
I had the chance to see this epic when it was broadcast by the BBC (a friend in England taped it for me) and I was amazed. I had never seen such a wonderful epic, and I wouldn't have believed I'd be so enthralled by this lenghty story, in Hindi! I look forward to seing it again in DVD quality. Everything in it is perfect, the story, the actors, everything. One little complaint though: the songs are not subtitled in English, and that is a pity, as they are really an important part of the story. But it's minor compared to the stuning qualities of this series.
Great series, absolutely woeful subtitles
Looking to increase my Hindi proficiency, I looked forward to finally seeing the famed Mahabharat series: I didn't have great expectations of special effects or production values, which while quietly amusing at times, make the series more endearing than anything. That said, the subtitles are among the worst I have ever seen: things left untranslated [which often happens in subtitles, admitted] but whole sentences are left out. When the subtitles do appear, they are out of sync to the extent that the scene has changed, and the subtitles for the last scene finally show up. How could Arrow have thought this was anywhere near acceptable? Bottom line: a great series if you speak Hindi, but don't expect to be able to follow the story relying on the "subtitles".
Excellent compilation
An excellently compiled series. this contains all the complete 94 episodes as aired on TV with a running time of over 70 hours. contains 'the making of the mahabharat' as a special feature which is a must watch. sound quality and audio quality is amazing. good work.
