Synopsis
In this eerie science-fiction ghost story, an astrophysicist (Sam Neill), haunted by the memory of his wife's suicide, joins a rescue mission to salvage his life's work: the Event Horizon, a prototype spacecraft capable of faster-than-light travel that has been missing for seven years. Their arrival triggers contact with something beyond human experience--and more dangerous than ever imaginable. Similar in plot to Andrei Tarkovsky's eponymous screen adaptation of Stanislaw Lem's science-fiction novel SOLARIS, EVENT HORIZON provides some truly potent moments in its often potent combination of horror and sci-fi.

A Glimpse of The Horror
When this film was released at the cinema 10 years ago a read a piece in Starburst magazine in an interview with Paul Anderson saying that the studio had asked him to trim back the film to make it a faster pace and to get more showings in in a day. 20 or so minutes where cut of caracter development, I always wondered especially when dvd format came into being whether or not we would get a directors cut. After all it was still quite a good and very disturbing film. While shopping this week I ended up seeing this special 2 disc addition on the shelf so I decided to get it. First though is not a directors cut or extended in any way. There are a couple of deleted scenes and in the featurettes show us a glimpse of what was removed from the finished film. Paul Anderson seemed happy with the final cut of the film in the documentaries you just wonder that if the film is gaining a cult following if this new Collectors Edition goes well a extended version may still find its way onto the market. This may be difficult as alot of the footage is lost around the world apparantly. This all may sound a little bit of a negative review, far from it it is a very good Collectors Edition in a funky case and probably Paul Andersons best film, which is highly under-rated. This is a very dark, very disturbing well acted film well directed, this may be the only version of the film we will see, so with the extra features disc and packaging this is a must for Scifi fans/Horror fans alike.
One of the best horror films I have seen in a long time
I first saw this when it was released ten years ago and having not seen it since, I was surprised as to how truelly chilling it is.
A crew are on theri way to answer a distress call sent out by the Event Horizon, a space craft that can bend space and time, which has been missing for seven years. Once aboard, the crew start to see some strange and distressing things. Just where has the ship been and what has it brought back?
Sam Neil gives a solid and frightening performance. Also good is Sean Pertwee and Laurence Fishbourne.
This is an underrated film, which I was surprised to find that not many of my friends had heard of. I found it truelly scary and it put me off the whole idea of time travel! Doctor Who it aint!
