Gabriel is a dark action/drama that takes place in the realm of Purgatory. It reveals the struggle between Arc and Fallen angels for control over the city and its population of re-born souls. At present, darkness rules and Gabriel, the last of seven Arcs sent to return light, must assume a human form for the first time. In the darkest places of the human soul, this lone arc angel's battle with his human feelings and emotions will prove as perilous as facing the Fallen. Purgatory's dangerous and seedy underworld will reveal the human condition as frail and strong, as corruptible and honorable but always undeniably powerful and precious.

Synopsis
As darkness descends on Earth, it's up to Gabriel to restore lightness and peace. In order to do this, the last of the seven Arcs must disguise himself in human form.

Worth Watching
I watched this film right after watching '30 Days of Night' and to be honest, Gabriel came across as the big budget film, but with an actual plot. I found it to be very entertaining, gripping and it surprised me with some very interesting takes of old established stories.

This is a very ambitious film considering the background of where it came from and the situation in which it was made. As mentioned on the DVD extra's, "you get the ones (films) with no money and heaps of time, or the ones with no time and heaps of money...this film was a combination of no money and no time"

This can be seen in a few places in the film, but that is the only bad thing I can say about this film.

It is clear to see that this has been a labour or love for all involved, both cast and crew and that shines through.

The plot is well written and the story has some very nice twists in it, set in a back drop that reminds the viewer of The Highlander, The Crow and Blade Runner this is a story of Good Vs Evil, of redemption and brotherhood.

The DVD also includes the normal extras such as a Behind-The-Scenes Featurette and Deleted Scenes.

This is well worth watching at least once.

Well Worth a Watch
I Think this film had so much more potential than it showed,the storyline was great, its rare these days to find such an original idea and i think with a bigger budget this film could of been amazing.
Having said that i still really enjoyed it, the acting was good, it didnt come across as low budget but some of the action scenes could have been improved upon a great deal.
Its not the type of film you can go back to and watch again and again but i would defianately recomend watching it at least once.

Almost 4 stars, but it is a concept movie
"Gabriel" is a concept movie about good and evil, here Arcs and Fallen (angels that is) fighting over power in Purgatory, here a dark, gloomy city of lost souls.

As with many concept movie that touch the stereotypical, I doubt I will remember the details of "Gabriel" in a few months time, however "Gabriel" does earn points for its original thought. No fluffy, happy-go-lucky angels here. Purgatory is Purgatory, and I rather like the fact, that the greatest maladroit isn't the Fallen bad guys but giving in to fear and hopelessness.

My appreciation of "Gabriel" came with watching the featurette and hearing about the very low budget of the movie. With that fact in mind, I congratulate the excellent visuals of "Gabriel". The world is very complete and the cinematography has a flair of a larger scale.
