Finally this has been released on DVD!

A charming and very funny show with great performances from the cast, although it's Lewis Collins who makes this worth watching and proves he's a fantastic comedy actor.

Shame there's no Extras, but I'm just very grateful to have it on DVD at last.
Bring on Series 2 and 3!

The Cuckoo Waltz Light Comedy (Vol 1)4
David Roper and Dianne Keen (Chris & Fliss) start their newly wedded life with their baby twins with little money and high hopes, with nothing more than the very bare essentials in the sparcely furnished semi. If this situation isn't struggle enough, along comes an old mate of Chris' (Lewis Collins), high-rolling, fast-living, who character wise, is as different as 'chalk from cheese'. He is recently separated from his wife (soon to be divorced), and comes to stay for a little while. As the days become weeks, he becomes a permanent fixture in the house and makes his room his home. Whilst Chris and Fliss are thankful for the rent, he certainly puts a strain on their relationship, which isn't helped by an over interferring mother, and the typical know-it-all, old-timer next door neighbour. So the seeds are sown for a cuckoo in the nest. It's as much an endearing light drama as comedy, and is certainly a sign of the times. Morals and fashions seem very dated by todays standards, but it is an interesting insight into the life and times of the early 70's. I have always been a fan of Diane Keen, who in my opinion is a much underrated actress. She makes the comedy more realistic by her strange logic whilst David Roper gets his laughs due to his dead-pan deliveries and a henpecked performance. Lewis Collins just isn't funny though. Maybe he doesn't have the lines, but he doesn't seem to have the aura either. All in all though, it is a must for all 70 sit-com fans who like to rekindle the heady days of yor.

'The Cuckoo Waltz' is a likeable sitcom of the mid-70s.Some of its humour was considered quite daring at the time, but considering what has happened to tv comedy since then, its mild references to sex are not going to offend anyone now. The scripts had a wordy, facetious quality which produced some smiles but few belly laughs. For the nostalgia fans the main attractions are the beauty and charm of the young Diane Keen, now the star of daytime soap 'Doctors', and the early appearance of popular action hero Lewis Collins.
