Better than anything that Hornby has produced. What moves you about this book is that Charlie Buck plays (nearly) everything by the book and still his life ends tragically. Could happen to anyone.

Easily the best of his books and one of the few that I have read more than once. Film adaptation was right to concentrate on the humour.

Hard to pick his best work, but this is so good, I was in tears when I finished it because I knew it would take me a long time to find anything to match it.

Very easy to read satire on the eighties. Liked the introductions to the family members but not so sure about the ending. Would love to see the film, which is almost another character in the book.

As good as the film. And there is no higher praise. I also read invisible monsters. That was awful.
