Books I've read: 2008-09
Twilight (Twilight Saga)Twilight (Twilight Saga) by Stephenie Meyer
Buy new: £3.46 / Used from: £2.26
I'm not a teenager anymore, but I really enjoyed this book. The endless declarations of love got a bit tedious, but loved the history of these vampires. Can't wait for the film, and the other books!
The Testament of Gideon MackThe Testament of Gideon Mack by James Robertson
Buy new: £5.97 / Used from: £0.01
Really enjoyable memoir, raises lots of issues and leaves you wondering, was he really mad??
New Moon (Twilight Saga)New Moon (Twilight Saga) by Stephenie Meyer
Buy new: £3.47 / Used from: £2.90
Not so much Edward in this book, which was disappointing, but great story and enjoyed getting to know Jacob better
Eclipse (Twilight Saga)Eclipse (Twilight Saga) by Stephenie Meyer
Buy new: £3.47 / Used from: £2.49
Story dragged a bit at times, but really great ending... can't wait to see how the saga ends!
Breaking Dawn (Twilight Saga)Breaking Dawn (Twilight Saga) by Stephenie Meyer
Buy new: £7.47 / Used from: £6.50
My least favourite of the four. Thought it was too long, dragged in places, mainly book two. But a good ending to what was overall a great saga.
Kiss of the Spider Woman (Arena Books)Kiss of the Spider Woman (Arena Books) by Manuel Puig
Buy new: £4.99 / Used from: £1.11
Got really engrossed in this book, which is basically a conversation between two prisoners. Sad, and very endearing.
The Lost Art of Keeping SecretsThe Lost Art of Keeping Secrets by Eva Rice
Buy new: £5.97 / Used from: £0.01
Charming, romantic, lovely book! I wish I lived at Magna as was friends with Charlotte, Harry and Aunt Clare!
Lunar ParkLunar Park by Bret Easton Ellis
Buy new: £5.98 / Used from: £0.04
Dare I say it, this is my favourite Bret Easton Ellis novel! You need to read the others to fully appreciate this, but it's worth it. Brilliant, page turning stuff.
Let the Right One inLet the Right One in by John Ajvide Lindqvist
Buy new: £4.17 / Used from: £2.95
An interesting twist on the vampire tale. Really enjoyed it, and I'm not generally a fan of the horror genre. Can't wait to see the film now!
After DarkAfter Dark by Haruki Murakami
Buy new: £4.59 / Used from: £1.99
Found this as beautifully written as every other Murakami novel. Was engrossed from page one, was just a shame the book was so short!
Kill Your FriendsKill Your Friends by John Niven
Buy used from: £3.88
This book is terrible!! It's like someone with not much writing skill has read American Psycho and thought 'I can do that' but based in London in 1997 with A&R men. Yuk.
Never Let Me GoNever Let Me Go by Kazuo Ishiguro
Buy new: £4.77 / Used from: £0.01
Love this book! So engrossing, and so very sad. Quite shocking as the truth slowly emerges throughout the story.
Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky (Vintage Classics)Twenty Thousand Streets Under the Sky (Vintage Classics) by Patrick Hamilton
Buy new: £6.73 / Used from: £2.52
Am a really huge fan of Patrick Hamilton. Didn't love this trilogy as much as Hangover Square. But am amazed at the atmosphere Hamilton can produce through his books. Can't wait to read more!
Prisoner Of The State: The Secret Journal of Chinese Premier Zhao ZiyangPrisoner Of The State: The Secret Journal of Chinese Premier Zhao Ziyang by Zhao Ziyang
Buy new: £11.49 / Used from: £10.50
Incredibly interesting and readable look into the secret world of the Chinese Communist Party.
Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince: Children's Edition (Harry Potter 6)Harry Potter and the Half-blood Prince: Children's Edition (Harry Potter 6) by J.K. Rowling
Buy new: £11.02 / Used from: £0.01
Re-read this in time for the film. One of my favourite Potter books. Not so much action in this one, but builds up well for the final instalment
Live FleshLive Flesh by Ruth Rendell
Buy new: £5.49 / Used from: £0.01
I've never read any Ruth Rendell before, but really enjoyed this. Not the murder-mystery I was expecting, more of a pschoanalysis, leading into a gripping tale that turns really, really bad.
World War ZWorld War Z by Max Brooks
Buy new: £5.78 / Used from: £3.86
The zombies are coming!!! Much more enjoyable than I expected a book about a zombie war to be. Especially enjoyed the international political element.
The God DelusionThe God Delusion by Richard Dawkins
Buy new: £4.47 / Used from: £1.99
The Picture of Dorian Gray (Wordsworth Classics)The Picture of Dorian Gray (Wordsworth Classics) by Oscar Wilde
Buy new: £1.99 / Used from: £0.01
After watching the monumentally awful film, I had to remind myself how brilliant this book is. I wasn't disappointed.
The Final SolutionThe Final Solution by Michael Chabon
Buy new: £4.99 / Used from: £0.01
Really enjoyable detective story, with an old familar face.
Marked (House of Night)Marked (House of Night) by P.C. Cast
Buy new: £2.99 / Used from: £1.70
Twilight this is not. A very quick and easy read, but disappointing and not original - was a cross between Harry Potter and Twilight, and not as good as either.
Betrayed (House of Night)Betrayed (House of Night) by P.C. Cast
Buy new: £3.74 / Used from: £1.99
Similar to the first book in the series. An easy and fairly enjoyable read, but not particularly original or well written.
The Suspicions of Mr. Whicher: or the Murder at Road Hill HouseThe Suspicions of Mr. Whicher: or the Murder at Road Hill House by Kate Summerscale
Buy new: £4.24 / Used from: £0.01
Great book. Not just the whodunnit aspect, but brilliant insight into Victorian life and the birth of the detective novel.
Chosen (House of Night)Chosen (House of Night) by P.C. Cast
Buy new: £3.74 / Used from: £0.98
A little more to this book, and the plot's moving along nicely. Particularly enjoyed the twist towards the end. Looking forward to reading what happens next!
