Samsung N73
I bought this TV for gaming mainly and it is the perfect companion for an Xbox 360 as it has a pre-tuned gaming mode however this is an overall excellent TV, its easy to set up, SD picture quality is surprisingly good and HD performence is spectacular!
Also worth mention is the built in memeory card reader for viewing photos which is not only handy but it also makes photos look razor sharp and very vibrant.
Not much wrong with the TV besides the black finish which looks good but is a fingerprint magnet (this is hardly an issue as you shouldnt need to touch it much anyway) and the remote is a little on the flimsy side (again not a big issue, it still works perfectly fine).
Overall I couldn't be happier with my purchase and at such value for money (a Toshiba or Sony with similar specs would be about 200 quid more and would have fewer features) this is easily recommended to anyone looking to enter the HD era.
So good I almost pulled a sickie!
What can i say... great replacement and entry into the LCD HD TV market! It has pretty much every input (and output) you require and more; fantastic brightness, contrast and sound! I connected my sky plus box using an ixos scart cable and the picture for an non HD source is sharp, crisp and colourful with limited pixelation (if a word). The set also has a built in digital freeview which will be handy if i every cancel my sky plus subsciption. I never actually bought mine through amazon but through dixons for a near same price. The benefit from dixons was the reduced cost in buying the stand - serano SB800. The set sits beautifully on top of a black glass stand and now is the jewel in my lounge! As for the previous comments i havent suffered any problems. The blue light only stays on during 'shop mode' which is an initial setting that you can switch on or off at any time. The setting gives a brighter picture and makes you believe the picture is more wonderful than it is during normal operation. Don't get me wrong, the picture is fantastic, but why have this feature which obviously effects your eye sight after prolonged usage, not to mention a theoretical reduction in quality over time? Mine is turned off and i only get the nice blue light shining from below when i use the remote control!
The bottom line this TV is great and for such a brand, at such quality, i think you will find similar TV's cheaper but none that will realistically compare!
Samsung N7 - good value at discounted £700 price
I have this TV and the picture quality is VERY good on Sky HD and Sky SD broadcasts (does depend on programme quality). The internal digital tuner is slightly below Sky - but still good. The PC input is fantastic. You do get quite comprehensive setups for the picture quality - although most of the presets do automatically adjust contrast to maintain a bright picture and this can result in some slight flickering effects on dark scenes. There is one setting (Movie) which bypasses this and I tend to use that. The backlight can be dimmed (as on some more expensive TVs) to really bring out the blacks. Sound is generally average and you need to turn the sound enhancement up along with the bass - but it is OK after that.
