How far would you go to protect your past? How much further to protect someone else's? The start of a thrilling Edinburgh-based series starring rebellious young lawyer Brodie MacLennan. A celebrated Edinburgh lawyer is found murdered outside an infamous gay haunt and notorious dominatrix Kailash Coutts stands accused. Against her wishes, headstrong, unorthodox Brodie McClennan is appointed to defend Kailash under the watchful gaze of the 'Dark Angels', a violent street-gang led by the enigmatic Moses Tierney. As the case becomes ever more complex, Brodie receives a chilling photograph, establishing a link to a number of brutal murders and a suspected paedophile ring. It becomes apparent that a serial killer is haunting the city - and that powerful people are involved, intent on covering up past crimes. Brodie herself becomes a target - both for a depraved killer and for deadly forces in the highest of circles! A shocking, atmospheric thriller that combines a centuries-old conspiracy with heart-stopping terror for fans of Ian Rankin and Mo Hayder!

About the Author
Grace Monroe is the pseudonym of Maria Thomson and Linda Watson-Brown. Maria graduated with a law degree in her 20s and soon met her future husband. The couple now have four children. Since finishing her law career she has worked as a hypnotherapist, stage hypnotist and fertility counsellor amongst others. After 10 years as a Politics lecturer, Linda began her journalistic career as a columnist at The Scotsman. She went on to write regularly for the Daily Mail, Sunday Herald and Independent and also started ghostwriting. In 2006, her first ghost-written book, The Step Child, was a Sunday Times bestseller. Maria and Linda met in 2003, became firm friends and decided to write as a team. Dark Angels is the first novel in a planned series featuring Brodie MacLennan.

double trouble
I'm on page 292 and struggling to move on. I keep on losing the thread of the story. It's written by two authors, and it shows. It just doesn't seem to flow and too often I seem to have to go back to see if I've missed something that will explain the bit I'm reading. It doesn't, though. The plot lurches around with some very strange and unbelievable characters. I'm a fan of crime fiction, but this really doesn't hold my interest. This really isn't the pick of the genre - try Billingham or Harrod Eagle's Bill Slider series, the Wallender series by Henkell Manning. Or anything else, in fact! (Now 5th October, still on p.292 and have given up altogether.)
Great Book
Wow "Dark Angels" and "Bloodlines" are something else. I bought both books to take with me to MajorcaI couldn't put them down. There are not enough strong female character books about but Grace Monroe is certainly doing their bit to redress the balance - fabulous main character in Brodie McLennan. Murder, Secret Societies, corruption in high places - fast moving well crafted plots that keep the reader guessing till the end. I can't recommend these books highly enough - you'd love them
Hard work
I struggled with this one, and found the plot to be fragmented and the hero to be unpleasant, more associated with her criminal clientele than the legal profession. There are so many plot shifts which leave the reader wondering how they got to that point. Nothing flows and the villains are wholly unbelievable. You would be better off with Robinson and Billingham.
