Customer Reviews
Good idea, neatly done
I know some of the Pocket Issue team, so I'm biased. But I always liked the idea - so much of the debate is clouded by vested interest - and I think it's been nicely put together. I like the way PI brings the discussion back to first principles. Clutching a Pocket Issue is a great way to protect yourself, with facts, from the one-eyed polemicists rampant in the media (Channel Four's Global Warming Swindle for instance, neatly rebutted by John Lanchester in the LRB and, more hotly, by George Monbiot).
Elizabeth Kolbert's trilogy of articles in The New Yorker is for my money the best long read on the subject but Pocket Issue must be the best short read.
If we put one in every classroom, maybe the kids will work out what we should do about Global Warming - they are the ones who are going to have to live with it (they can't do much worse than we're doing).
Informed Again
I read this after Pocket Issue The Energy Crisis and again I now feel much better informed about the issues concerning Global Warming and able to join in the debate. It sets out the facts without pushing any third party agenda, so often missing from todays news reports. Great value for the knowledge it gives that many who incorrectly profess to know the issues should refer to.
It's science, but an easy read...
This is one of the first science/history books that hasn't lost me on page 1 (or page 2). It moves along easily and I liked the funny illustrations and little charts. Good starting point to get up to speed with what everyone is talking about.
