Product Description

This title offers a detailed introduction to being vegan, with specialist advice on what it involves and how to make the necessary dietary and nutritional changes to balance a vegan lifestyle. It includes over 50 enticing and tasty vegan recipes for all kinds of meals and occasions. The recipes include favourite dishes adapted for vegans plus brand new innovative ideas to try. It contains over 350 stunning colour photographs in total, including a wonderful picture of each finished recipe plus easy-to-follow step-by-step photographic techniques to help you prepare each dish. Vegans are vegetarians who have taken their beliefs one step further by choosing to live entirely independent of animal products: meat, dairy products and eggs are out, as are the countless animal derivatives that commonly find their way, unnoticed, into our food. For anyone considering becoming a vegan, this combined cookbook, diet guide and kitchen reference can help make the changes straightforward and easy to understand. As well as the 50 delicious and easy-to-make recipes, a comprehensive introduction offers advice on the vegan diet: what foods to avoid and how to replace them; maintaining a healthy balanced diet; the key ingredients used in vegan cooking; planning meals for children; daily menu suggestions; and ideas for entertaining.

One of the better ones...5
First published in 2000 this is still the best as an all-rounder.

For someone who, not put too fine a point on it, hates cooking, I recommend this because the recipes are: a) EASY to follow b) glossy pictures to entice you along the painful process and c) doesn't use expensive ingredients.

The whole veganism idea (which isn't the reason I started vegan) is explained in the first few reference styled pages and is EXCELLENT for those who want a quick intro and what to substitute things with.

The only criticisms I would have (if I had any) is that I'd have liked more recipes to show a wheat-free alternative than pasta or bread, and also for recipes without a clear protein product to have one. This can easily be remedied by knowing your proteins / wheat substitutions which can be found easily on the net, and adjusting the recipe accordingly.

No miss primer in vegan gastronomy5
I have quite a few excellent vegan cookbooks, and this one was my last purchase. It is the first cookbook anyone should get, and it makes an excellent present to people who have little or no cooking experience, whether vegans or not.

Overall, it makes a first-time cook very eager to try the recipes immediately, and makes experienced cooks prepare more dishes than can be consumed in a day (that is what happened to us). And despite its small number or recipes (just over 50) it contains plethora of techniques, ingredients used, and dishes -- even ice cream without an ice-maker -- which lead you to inadvertently conceive of creative adaptations of the recipes.

Also contains an introduction to the whys of veganism, vegan sources of nutrients, advice on the replacement of animal products, daily menu ideas, stocking your pantry, pregnancy and children dietary advice, and more practical information, all these in the first 16 easy-to-read well illustrated pages.

Last but not least, the size and weight of the book is most convenient to spread open over the kitchen counter and throw glimpses while you cook (it stays open in the page you want it to).

Amazing value for money.

Easy to follow and simple ingredients.5
Great easy to use vegan cook book. The best part is none of the recipes call for hard to find items or are a foot long list like some books I could mention! Every recipe I've tried from it has turned out tasty and like the pictures. Would recommend to new and old vegans alike.
