Product Description

Since its conception in 1951, the Knightsbridge Golf School has taught tens of thousands of golfers of all ages and abilities, from the wonderfully talented to the woefully inept. Amazingly, despite a wealth of instructional material and access to the latest teaching technology, golfers of today are no better than they were when the school first opened its doors almost sixty years ago. They still cling hopelessly to the delusion that the next golden tip or instant fix will suddenly and magically transform them from rabbit to Tiger. The Golf Delusion explains that sadly no such tip exists, and outlines a proven, time-tested swing model that guarantees a programme for immediate and sustained improvement.

About the Author
Steve Gould and DJ Wilkinson have more than seventy years teaching experience between them. They both joined the school in the 1970s and studies under the legendary teacher Leslie King, a pioneer of golf swing instruction who founded the Knightsbridge Golf School in 1951. In 1989 Mr King handed the school down to them, and over the past twenty years they have polished his original teachings into a beautifully simple and effective swing model that can be learnt by anyone, regardless of age or ability.

best golf instruction book on the market5
Steve and Dave's second book is even better and clearer than their first. They do the best job I have ever seen in describing how to achieve a proper golf swing in very clear and simple terms. It is great to see their system depicted by photos of both amateurs and professionals. If there is one golf instruction book to buy this is it. It helped me and will help you!

Very Helpful5
This is really a sequel to the Swing Factory. The new book places strong emphasis on grip and hand action which I found very helpful - applying the simple priciples has led to a significant improvement in ball striking and accuracy. I think though that it needs to be read after the swing factory which is a more comprehensive instruction manual - the new book simply emphasises some aspects of the instruction in the swing factory and for me this approach has worked well. The celebrity name dropping etc would not be to everyone's liking but there is a purpose in that it helps to relate more to "delusions" - more so than refering to anonymous students.
It also probably is partially aimed at drumming up business for the school but I have no problem with that - in fact if the book works for you then lessons at the school might be a good idea to reinforce and tweek the books instructions.
Well done to the authors - you have produced 2 of the best golf instruction books I have read (and i have read plenty!). Hope to see them soon in Knightsbridge - just a bit worried about how much the wife will spend in Harrods whilst I'm at the school!

A valuable book5
This book is different because it starts with an explanation of the faults in most amateur's swings, the effects of these faults and the way to go about fixing them. This is in contrast to most books that start from a description of what Pro's do, then explains how to copy them.

The book advises a 10 finger baseball grip, for example, as being more suitable for most people who lack great hands. Most pro based books, such as Hank Haney's "Essentials of the Swing", start from the point that since Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods use the interlocking grip, then so should the reader. My personal experience is that I bought Hank Haney's book about 6 months ago, and adopted the interlocking grip. I had a reasonable season, but my ball striking was weak. I have recently gone to the baseball grip as a result of reading "Delusions" and my ball striking has improved. I am now convinced that this book, based on improving the game of amateurs who lack the natural talent of the pro's, will take more people further in the game than books based on copying pro's.

In addition to the point about the grip, this book has a really good explanation about hand action. Most books are very concerned with swing plane, but "Delusions" really focusses on controlling the wrists and, particularly, not rotating the wrists / forearms. I found this point very valuable and is one that I have not seen in other golf books.

There are only about 3 or 4 more key points and drills in the book, but I think the book is all the better for that in the sense that "less is more" when you are trying to learn something.

I have read one critical review that points out that these instructional gems are buried within a lot of anecdotes about celebrities and pro's. Certainly this book could have been a lot shorter without all of the background stories, but I did enjoy reading them.

In summary, I think this book has already done more for my game than any other, and I am looking forward to further progress as I work on some of the drills that I have not had a chance to try yet.
