The larvae of the Common Clothes Moth can be very destructive to clothes, carpets, rugs and upholstered furniture. In clothes damage occurs mainly in dark areas and under cuffs and collars. When damaging carpets, the Clothes Moth larvae extend silken feeding tubes along floor cracks. Clothes moths will rarely fly to lights like other Moths and tend to stay in the darkness. They can fly long distances and get through narrow cracks. The female lays about 50 eggs over about 3 weeks, which develop into the damaging larvae. Traditional Moth Balls contain an insecticide, which has been reported to poison people and especially Children under 6. They also leave a nasty odour. A more Natural way to monitor and treat these Moths is with a pheromone baited trap. This will attract and catch the male Moth preventing it from mating with the female and therefore preventing egg laying. Each sticky pad once placed in the trap will last about 12 weeks.

Hooray!
The traps caught their first moth in less than 5 minutes, quickly followed by male moth mayhem. The first lot of traps caught over 70, in addition to which I killed 30-40 moths that had landed near the traps over a 3-week period, with most of the victims finding their way to the pads in the first week.
Hopefully, persistent use of these traps over the coming year will break the back of their breeding cycle and I'll be able to buy non-synthetic jumpers again!
Strategic positioning of the traps is pretty essential. If a new trap doesn't catch anything in a day, try moving it to another place - a slightly darker corner of the room - perhaps only a few feet away from its original position. The most productive trap in our house is nowhere near a wardrobe - on the very top floor of the house, stuck on one end of the top shelf of a very dark 1 meter high book shelf, in a dark corner.
Really works but only one 'trap'
This moth trap has worked amazingly well, 10 moths on the first night. I was slightly mislead by the details though, it says 'contains 10 sticky traps'; in fact there is one plastic holder and 10 sticky inserts. I found I could use the sticky pieces without the holder by blu-tacking them in place, so have one in the airing cupboard and another in the bedroom.
Not great....
I have had two of these simple traps in two seperately occupied rooms now for 3 days and everynight we sit and watch the moths buzz everywhere in the room but near it. I placed it next to a moth sitting on the wall within inches - the next morning it hadnt moved an inch. The trap was empty. Not really very good at all.
