Editorial Reviews
CD Description
Ninth album from the RnB diva celebrates the 20 years sinceher breakthrough album 'Control', in which time she has arguably eclipsed the success and fame of her elder brother, becoming the biggest-selling female artist in the world. With Jermaine Dupri joining as producer alongside Jackson regulars Jam & Lewis, '20 Y.O.' moves away from the slow jams featured heavily on her recent albums and marks a return to the uptempo dance sound that made her name, with the lyrics of some songs referencing those of tracks on 'Control'. Includes the singles 'Call On Me' and 'So Excited'.
Customer Reviews
coulda been better
Contrary to other reviews this is no classic anniversary album..i was expecting big things for this album but largely she's failed to deliver. The main mistake was having jermaine dupri(the current boyfriend of ms jackson) to produce this album..jermaine is a good producer but he's never held up when producing a whole cd or the bulk of it in this case and this is no different..the album only really comes alive at the end when jam and lewis(janets regular producers) make their mark on tracks like Enkoy and take care whic are briliant...this could abeen great as it is it's her worse album since the velvet rope..better luck next time
nothing to get so excited about!!!!
janets latest album is released 20 years after "control" and after the "damita jo" album which flopped and the popping out fiasco...i was hoping for a lot more than what is here!
ive listened to it about 10 times now and although it potters along very inoffensively nothing stand out and says "wow"
there is nothing bad about the album...but its like listening to a cd single of the same song with different mixes!
even the duets with nelly and khia lack sparkle! Thats it! The album lacks sparkle!
Janet the Queen
This album is indeed a masterpiece, and just another reason why Janet is the icon she is today. This album didn't do too well in the UK charts, thanks to Virgins lack of promotion, but this cd is one of the best, if not the best RnB cd released this year.
Janet has been through the mill in recent years, and shes back with this record which proves, she hasn't lost her magic touch. Call on Me and So Excited, are the leading singles, and are great, but aren the best songs on the cd... each and every song on this record could be a massive hit if released. The cd is unique, and has the Jackson touch.
