Bombs and scars.
This pamphlet architecture looks at the bombing of Sarajevo from around 1992 to 1996 and how the effects of this act of war have affected the city. Written in both English and Croatian, Lebbeus Woods does a fantastic job of addressing the moral problems which faced the reconstruction of the bombed buildings, wether to rebuild to the same standard as before or to progress with a modern 'utopian' build thereby erasing all knowledge of what was once there. With beautiful hand drawn sketches of Woods own proposals to the buildings with his scar, scab and new-tissue ideas, we see how the reconstruction of buildings is more emotional and complex than it seems.
Definitely worth a read if you are interested in these two strong and broad subjects, and enjoy some rare hand drawn images. Sits nicely on a coffee table.
