    An Excellent Compact Laser printer5
I bought this printer due to the excellent reviews it received on epinions.com and was not disappointed. It is small and relatively easy to set up and the quality of the print it churns out is excellent.

The printer comes with a toner cartridge which lasts for around 1000 pages, more than enough for people like me who need it for personal rather than business use. This is easy to fit into the printer and a sheet of diagrams showing exactly how it is done is provided. What however isn't provided is a USB cable to link the printer and computer but this is available for a pound or so from places like W H Smiths. Tip: There's no point on spending loads on a USB cable as the quality of the cable has no bearing whatsoever on the rate at which the printer works or the print it produces.

There are two things to watch out for though:
I found that the printer driver on the CD provided in the box didn't work and had to go to the HP.com website to download and install it. Also, make sure that you have USB Printing Support installed on your machine before beginning, something that is easily checked in the control panel of windows.
I did neither of these things and spent ages wondering why the printer wasn't working before fixing the problems mentioned above.

Overall, this is a wonderful little printer which is definitely worth buying.

The HP1020 is excellent value for money4
The quality of text printing is excellent and graphics are also most acceptable. I have found no serious problems after two weeks of use.
One point I find rather annoying is that there are no buttons on the machine. When no paper is found, such as when printing double-sided manually, one has to go to the computer to click on a the screen. If the printer and computer are well separated, this can be a little tiresome. A single button on the printer could overcome this problem. All other printers I have used have employed a button for this purpose.
Despite this shortcoming, I am very pleased with the machine and hope that the toner lasts as long as my previous laser printer.

    Quick and Quiet5
In the early 80's I bought an HP4 plus laser printer and used it up to about 3 years ago when it finally gave up. I then used a bubblejet which was great as there was colour at last, but the speed and print quality was not what I was used to. So a couple of weeks ago I bought the HP1020 through Amazon for a great price, as I wanted good print quality again. Once out the box with the leads plugged in, I loaded the CD and in just a couple of minutes I was printing my first page - amazing. The speed and quality is far superior than the old HP4 plus, much much quieter too. It is quite small and light in weight and looks quite ordinary, but as a laser printer I cannot fault it, it really is brilliant.

The original HP4 plus cost me over a thousand pounds (£999 + VAT) in about 1983 and lasted over 20 years. This printer cost me less than £60 including p + p and I'm sure will also last for years. Talk about prices going down!!!

If you want a laser printer, then look no further. The quality of print is exceptional for such an inexpensive printer, and so far every single page has been trouble free and of the highest print quality - amazing.

The down side, it is not colour, but what can you expect at such a low price. I shopped around and found this on Amazon, a third party company who said the product might show signs of some light use, however, it was brand new in the box and having no signs of ever being opened. I really got a great deal. Knowing what I now know, I would happily have paid full price for it and still felt I had a bargain.

    Buy It!!!
