Manufacturer's Description
Take your music on the go with the feather-light SanDisk Sansa M240 1 GB flash memory digital audio player, which is bulked up with a surprising amount of features for such a small device. In addition to playing both MP3 and WMA audio files, it also sports a digital voice recorder. It supports the Microsoft Windows Media Player 10 and features PlaysForSure support for portable music downloads. And it's powered by a single AAA battery, which will provide up to 19 hours of battery life.

The 1 GB Sansa M240 will hold approximately 16 hours of CD-quality MP3 tracks (encoded at 128kps) or 32 hours of WMA tracks (at 64kbps). It's compatible with MP3, WMA, secure WMA, and Audible audio file formats. With five different equalizer types, you can optimize the sound for your favorite style of music, such as, Rock, Jazz, Classical, Pop, and Custom (user-defined). You can also use the built-in microphone and voice recording function to capture interviews, classes, and short voice notes to yourself.

The compact yet robust industrial design offers an easy-to-use interface with an indigo-backlit LCD screen showing ID3 tag information from currently playing tracks (song title, artist, and album, as well as battery level and playlist). Sophisticated music library sorting lets you browse the music in your player by artist, album, song title, genre, year, playlist, and other useful criteria. The AB playback feature allows you to select a start point and an end point within an audio file so you can play that segment over and over--helpful for learning languages.

It's easy to transfer songs to the Sansa--just connect it to your PC via the included USB 2.0 connection cable, where it will appear as a Windows Portable Device on your computer. Then, just drag and drop music files from anywhere on your hard drive or use a variety of music software to move licensed music to the device. The Sansa is compatible with PCs running the Windows XP operating system.

The Sansa M240 can hold 16 hours of CD-quality MP3 tracks on its 1 GB memory.

The SanDisk Sansa M240 digital audio player uses PlaysForSure technology. Look for the PlaysForSure logo if you're shopping for a portable music or video device and you want to make sure the digital music and video you purchase will play back on it every time. Match the PlaysForSure logo on a large selection of leading devices and online music stores. If you see the logo, you'll know your digital music will play for sure. Choose from a large number of digital music and video stores, including MTV's Urge, Rhapsody, Yahoo!, MSN Music, MusicMatch, MusicNow, Napster, Wal-Mart Music Downloads, and many more.

    Great value and great sound5
It may not look the coolest of MP3s but if you can put up with this you'll get an easy to use sound machine with excellent sound quality. It's easy to transfer music from your PC simply by dragging and dropping. I've only had mine a week so haven't tested battery life but looks okay and it's only an AAA battery so you can carry a spare. My kids all have Zen nanos and they say the sound quality on mine is better - for half the price! I also treated myself to sennheiser PX200 h/phones which are a real improvement on the ok standard headphones.

    A gem of a budget player5
This is an excellent player for the money. I traded down from an iPod Video, and sound quality is comparable. My initial impressions were that the headphones lacked midrange, but I think this was a fault of the MP3s rather than the device itself, as I've since filled it with WMAs from a subscription music store and it sounds fantastic, and with some Shure E2Cs it sounds even better.

For a couple of pounds less, you could buy a generic player of similar capacity, but this has a couple of features I haven't found on any other player near this price:

    1. You can browse your music collection by artist, or album.
    2. It supports DRM protected WMAs, so supports subscription music stores.
    3. It has a stopwatch, so if you go out running with it, it has all you need to time yourself...
    4. ... Speaking of which, it comes supplied with a plastic case and armband.

I like the fact that it takes a AAA battery (one is supplied), as if you're not near a computer (on holiday, for instance), you're not far away from some power. And with supermarkets selling own-name batteries for as little as 12.5p per battery, it costs next to nothing to run, and battery life is excellent at upto 19 hours.

No device is perfect, though, so downsides..

    1. It is a little chunky. It's very light though.

And if I'm being really picky...

    2. I wish it had a clock.

All in all though, a very well deserved 5 stars.

Excellent Value and Simplicity in action5
This little machine packs a punch for it's price.
It is stylish enough, and comes with 1GB of memory - which was ample for what I needed it for.
I purchased it for listening to audio tapes and meditation mp3's, so I was looking for something cheap and cheerful, and found this to be better than I hoped for and excellent value for the money. You can get hours and hours of audio or music on it.
You can record voice also and save and play it back - a feature My kids loved so much that I had to buy another 3 as stocking fillers!!!

It has all the basic functions that you would expect, various menu selection options, a locking facility also so you don't accidently cut off your music or mp3 file.
It comes with the earplug style stereo headphones, a clear plastic protector case, and a wrist strap. All of which are pretty basic, but then what do you expect for the peanuts which this little gadget cost.

All in all, excellent value for money. If you just need something simple, yet nifty enough to do the job, the Sansa Sandisk certainly does the job well.
