    Wired!5
Sick of losing your wireless connection every few minutes? Don't want reams of Cat5 cable cluttering up your house? Can't be doing with the disruption and hassle of tearing your home apart to properly install cabling and network access points in every room?

If the answer to all of the above is yes, as it was in my case and your house has reasonably good quality mains wiring then then homeplug is definitely the way to go. Before buying, I borrowed a couple of these from a friend at work, I got a speed of between 55 - 75 Mbits/sec, and thats with one of them connected to an extension lead, which isn't recommended. Having bought a pair and used them for a couple of weeks now, I am most impressed. According to the supplied monitoring software the connection rarely drops below 72Mbits/sec, despite my homes 1975 vintage wiring, and the fact that they are on seperate ring mains with one of them connected via a 4way extension lead.

The only disadvantage, is that you can get USB wireless devices for considerably less, but wireless was so unstable speed wise in my house I consider the extra cost well worth it.

The Zyxels aren't the cheapest home plug solution, but the build quality is good, and crucially they are well ventilated, which is essential as they do tend to get warm. Most of the other home plug solutions I've seen don't seem to have any ventilation, so long term reliability could become a problem.

Going wireless ? - go power over ethernet5
Having spent weeks trying to get a good signal from a MIMO wireless I opted to try the Zyxel. Minutes later the connection was superb. Highly recommended alternative to wireless

Does what it says on the box5
Very easy to set up - I wanted to communicate between computers on two different mains circuits on one consumer unit and this works fine. You don't need to use the software unless you want to use encryption.
