Editorial Reviews

From Amazon.com
Out of the Cradle is the kind of adult rock record that gets lost in a marketplace that caters only to a younger audience. Buckingham developed his songwriting and production skills as the most-valuable-player in Fleetwood Mac, but as a solo artist he's proven to be a bit too arty for the mass audience he'd won as a member of Mac. Out of the Cradle is a sumptuously recorded labor of love that's as thick with guitars as it is with intricate vocal harmonies. "Surrender the Rain," billowing with voices, suggests an arty take on the Beach Boys, while "Soul Drifter" rocks to a seductive beat that's swaddled with guitars. The entire album is a treat for guitar freaks, as Buckingham includes instrumental interludes and lavishes as much attention on the sound of his guitars as most producers spend on the entire band. Buckingham interrupted work on his followup to this album for the recent Fleetwood Mac reunion. After all, a man's got to eat. --John Milward

Entertaining music fans ...everywhere!4
Lynsey Buckingham is in top form and enjoying himself !!(I presume). This album feels like a Fleetwood Mac album all over yet it doesn't cover old ground. On first listenings I identified 3 very good numbers but on repeated exposure the genius shines through making it easily his best offering. Strangely, not one of the songs were released (?) or maybe they did and bombed. Its a great pity because, for many, Lynsey Buckingham is the greatest part of FM. Just think of it, the following 5 songs could (in a fairer world) be number 1's - "Soul Drifter" "All my Sorrows", "Don't look down", "You do or you don't" or "Surrender the Rain". I suppose Lynsey has the money made and just wants to play to the real music fans...us!
2 interesting comments (1) Some songs have little intros (nice inventive touch) and (2) there are a whooping 16 songs to listen to (very rare).
I may seem a little unfair not giving the 5 stars but don't let that put you off....this is really a tremendous piece of work.

More of this please...5
I recently bought this album and it has hardly been off my CD player. I love it - it gets better with every play. It's more mature than Lindsey's earlier albums and, yes, Mac fans will like it a lot. The guitar playing is a rare treat and all the songs are well crafted. Just begs two questions - when will he make another solo album and why wasn't Soul Drifter released as a single? Buy and enjoy!

Can't get enough5
My entry into the world of Mac was backwards. I found them through Lindsey Buckingham and more specifically, this album. I heard five minutes of it when my brother bought it. I purchased it straight away. I believe that, by far, Lindsey is one of the the most talented guitarists around and this album shows why. A massively eccelctic album it swings from finger picking solos to remakes of Big Love. His vocals are fantastic and the freshness of his sound is so strong that each time is like the first. This picks up where the Buckingham Nicks album left off. A must for all music fans that crave something a little different.
