Product Description

The Oxford Paperback Greek Dictionary covers over 40,000 words and phrases, providing up-to-date coverage of the general vocabulary of contemporary Greek and English, in a clear and accessible form. Idiomatic phrases illustrate words in use, and there are full explanations of terms for which cultural differences prevent an exact translation.

Customer Reviews

OK as a listing of vocabulary but....4
The typeface is too small for the beginner to correctly identify SOME greek lower case alphabet letters. It is certainly comprehensive but there are some limits to what can be put into a "Pocket" format and this volume exceeds these by a clear margin. It would be far more convenient in use if the font size were cranked up a bit and some more pages added.

Also the promise of "grammatical structures" is scantly addressed.

Altogether it is a very good reference work but get a good pair of reading glasses and don't try to use it in a darkened taverna!

excellent, easy, comprehensive reference5
I teach English and Greek privately in Greece to both children and adults and find this dictionary to be the best of its kind for comprehensive entries and references in both languages and full indication of the uses, idiomatic, metaphorical and normal. It is also extremely useful in that it includes terms in katharevousa which is great for those of us who do complicated translation work and who like to read literature from an earlier period.
