Reflecting up-to-date amendments to the RCGP Membership exams, this book offers revision for the Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) exam, which forms part of the New MRCGP - compulsory from October 2007. Vital for all GP registrars, newly-appointed GPs and candidates sitting the new MRCGP, it features 4 practice papers, each containing 200 questions, in line with the exam, with answers at the end of each paper. In accordance with the exam, the papers incorporate EMQs, SBAs, MBAs, data and image interpretation questions across the full range of subjects GPs are examined in, allowing students to test their aptitude. Review
"This is an excellent book and I am sure that it will rapidly become indispensable for any candidate who is planning to sit the new AKT."Dr John Sandars, Senior Lecturer in Community Based Education, University of Leeds"Highly recommended! This book should be used by all GP registrars preparing for the exam. It is an excellent way of assessing knowledge and discovering areas of weakness for those entering general practice. The questions are very well written, varied and cover all the main areas required for the AKT exam, and the answers are explained very clearly and comprehensively."Dr Louise Newson, General Practitioner, West Midlands"This is a handy book for all nMRCGP candidates but would also be spot on for GP Returners and Re-accreditation preparation. I recommend it to all GPs and Registrars."Dr Noel Lawn, General Practitioner, Exeter"Essential reading for MRCGP candidates, who would be foolish to attempt the exam without it."Dr Steve Price, General Practitioner, Exmouth"I thought the book was brilliant! It had lots of GP-based questions, reflecting true GP practice life, and the explanations were great too. Dr Daniels' book is highly recommended."Dr Steve Karagiannis, GP Registrar, Woodside Health Centre, Glasgow

Not PasTest at its best
Ok so with nMRCP looming and an overwhelming amount of material to cover I'm sure I'm not alone in pressing all the 'panic' buttons available and purchasing vast amounts of texts in a vague hope of cramming the contents quickly into my cranium. Having used PasTest previously for DCH and DRCOG, with success, I waited eagerly for the arrival of my new literaray exam complanion.
Now dont get me wrong this book is good, covers lots of information and highlights areas of knowlege deficit (hopefully not too many!) and I firmly believe that practice questions are the best way to prepare for exams (having the lost the ability of photographic memory recall somewhere in my mid-teens)
A few things let this book down - some of the answers are just wrong (after much cross referencing and frantic calls to friends to make sure I wasnt going mad) and explanations are not as thorough as other PasTest publications which usually have subject summaries.
In short a probable 'must have' in comparision to other texts for this exam but a long way off the usual PasTest standard.
hmmmm not that cracking.
Far too many errors for me to have much faith in it. I wonder if anyone proof read it, or did they just jump on the nMRCGP money spinning bandwagon (everyone else has). I'd suggest spending your money on one of the online examination packages.
Great general revision tool
I'm a final year medical student and used this to revise for my MCQ exam. I found it really helpful, well laid out and the answers well explained. The way that the correct answers are rationalised gives this book an advantage over others. Obviously I don't know how applicable it is to the GP examinations, but I would certainly recommend it to any student who needs some well written and explained MCQs for practice/revision.
